You can buy a keyboard cover for your computer that will keep the 'kitten off the keys". Your computer should have an air filter that keeps the cat hair out. We had mine open and not a single hair got into the machine, so you needn't worry about that.

If your cat has dandruff and 'boogers' it might have parasites and a skin condition. You must take it to the vet.
Cats in the bed will shed but shouldn't leave other deposits. Is it a longhaired cat? Then perhaps the litter is sticking to its fur. Brush the cat daily if this is the case; once a week with a ZoomGroom if it is a shorthair.

The food is important. You should get a good quality food that will be cheaper in the long run than the generic store-bought kind, and the cat's dandruff should disappear when it is eating a proper diet.

Lastly you should really consider: do you want to keep a cat? It's not a passing fad, but a lifetime responsiblity. It means accepting the occasional hairball with the purrs. The cat is an animal, and while it is a clean animal, it will still make messes occasionally.

If you do not have the time to care for the cat, and do not feel comfortable having it in your room and bed (since it will go everywhere that you go if given the chance) maybe it should be returned, with thanks, to the person who gave it to you.

Lastly be SURE that the cat is spayed/fixed. Please, for your sake and its.

Good luck and I hope that you make a decision that is best for you and for the cat.

Wow, this thread has grown!

I had a little mouse toy and was playing with her with that, and she loved it. I'd drag it across the floor and she'd watch it, then I'd throw it and she'd run after it and then bring it back, like a dog
. But by the end of the day she had pretty much torn it up, so I bought her some new toys, and she definitely liked them. But she still was crazy at night, not as bad though, but was scratching the carpet a lot and that kept me up for a while. So I think next purchase will be a scratching post, but those things are kind of big and I don't have tons of room for it.

I also bought her some fancy feast instead of dry food, and she loved that. I gave her just a half of can, didn't want to see her puke it up or anything. But it still seems like unhealthy food, so I may get something better at the pet store (wasn't open last night).

I guess this cat's a good test of my patience

Oh btw, a few days after I got the cat, my roommate got jealous and bought a little puppy, so now it's animal city here
Except my cat hisses at the puppy, so it'll take time for them to play together.

Me too. That was adorable.

Anyhow-I'm glad to hear everything is getting better with the cat keeping.
She is such a DARLING!
Did I miss her name? I don't remember seeing her name mentioned.
You've been given great advice here. I'd say all that's left is a trip to the vet, and some more play time, and things should turn out alright.
She'll be more happy once her & the puppy get aquainted and can play when you're not home.

Some scratching posts arent big at all. And especially because you're looking for a smaller one, it'll be around the $20 range. Any scratching post will do...For real. They are like attracted to it or something.
If you ever have a box, she'll love that too. She might play with that for hours. And a paper bag...2 very cheap, but very awesome toys.

Keep us updated...and keep the videos a rollin' in. I know I love 'em.

This might seem strange, but I actually enjoy hearing my cats go krazy right before I sleep... I don't have any problem with them chasing after each other ... it's in their nature, and even if I could prevent it from happening.. I wouldn't want to.. it's an awesome thing to see them so active.

I have a scratching post for Gizmo that attaches to a corner of the wall. It's great for a kitten since it can be remounted at a higher place as the kitten grows. These things are made of sisal and are not expensive.

I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your new cat and now there is a puppy to play with...maybe they will sleep together and play at night soon?

As for the problem of keeping the cat off the bed, if your cat (like mine) won't tolerate being shut out of the bedroom, you should try a Purr Pad. That worked immediately for me... they cost about $10 for two at Target or a pet store. My cat hadn't liked any other attempts at a bed, but he loves this thing, kneads it, etc.... he instantly switched to sleeping on it on the floor. He only gets up on the bed once every month or two now. It also has some sort of electrostatic charge that is supposed to attract cat hair to it, so less hair is left in the rest of the room.

Many other cats (though not mine) love the little round fleece-covered beds called doughnuts.

OK guys I'm getting rid of this cat.

I'm in central Ohio - if anyone is interested in adopting her (free), PM me.

She's a great cat, I just can't live with her right now.

It sounded as if things were going really well.
If you have changed your mind, is there any chance that the family members who gave you the cat can take it back?
If not, are any of the other Ohio posters able to adopt it?

Hello Kevin,

I'm in the Central Ohio area, and although I'm not able to adopt your cat you could contact the various agencies that work out of the PetSmart located at Easton. There is a wonderful woman who is there every Saturday with her numerous cats. They also have other people and agencies who try to get cats adopted from this location. I'm sorry I don't know her name or organization, but if you call PetSmart at Easton and ask them, I'm sure they could give you more info. Hopefully your family member can get her back, but if not, this is a possible option.

Also, I hope you don't feel bad. You tried and now you are doing the right thing by trying to find a good home for her.

Kevin, I agree - if things are not working out it's really best for both you and the cat to let her go to a place that will be more suitable for her and better for you. Please do make sure you don't give her to just anyone though and particularly not a kill shelter. It's great that you tried but some things aren't meant to be.
