right my kitten's are now just over 4 week's old and mum isn't wanting to feed as much so my vet said to try and ween them as lilly has been pulling away when feeding sometime's so this is the problem i know how to ween kitten's but they wont have any of it , they will drink water by them self's have been for the last week but they would rather eat the cat litter then the kitten food , i have tried mixing with bolid water and lactol kitten replacment milk but they just turn there nose's up , there still putting on weight so i am not concerend about them not getting enough food what worry's me is will the cat litter do them harm ? it's not the clumping type lol after reading of here i changed it and they have just started to use the litter tray
any idea's on how i can get them to try there food and not eat the litter ? thanx in advance

So long as you are feeding their mother in the same room where they can observe her eating, they will take to it on their own - if she isn't nursing them as much, then they will take to the food you put down a little faster. You can also try a little chicken or turkey meat-only human baby food (read the label and make sure it doesn't contain onions, onion powder or garlic - no veggies at all, just meat and broth) - confine them to a place which is easy to clean up and put the baby food down on small paper plates (I use the dessert-sized ones). They will walk through it, they will roll in it, they will get it everywhere but in their mouths, but Mom will love it and show them how to eat it. Just be patient.

My kittens have been 'trying' food since they were 4 weeks old. They just turned 6 weeks and everyone seems to be eating! I had one who only ate the dry food at first and one who would only eat wet food and then one holdout...she was the last one to eat, and now they all seem to eat when they want to. I leave dry food down 24/7, with a bowl of water and give them wet food once a day.
