When Scratch first adopted us, he was really really shy. Now, the first night I had him, he hid under my arm chair in my room, and just shook all night long. When he was finally hungry enough (sometime around 3am) he wondered over to his food dish. Right before he hid again he let out this mournful meow. It was almost like he missed everything about his old life. Because of that meow I feel like I've been put on a mission to make him feel as comfortable as possible. He, in turn, has paid me back by being one of the most loving kitties of all time. Scratch Fury Destroyer of Worlds may be shy, but he also loves myself and my husband more than words can say. Today, Scratch dropped the only toy that he was able to take from the shelter by my feet. I think it was a sign that he has moved on.

That is so sweet. Seems like he figured out he is safe with you and can let go of his only toy from his past. I may have missed it, but do you know his history before the shelter?
Isn't that a great feeling when they let you know they have accepted you?

What we've been told is that he was brought back twice because he was too shy. I believe that he was abused in at least one of the homes just because of the way he has acted towards people walking around him (he's really skittish), and noises that make him run and hide. Also, he was a bit of a medical mess as well. I think that he's really turned the corner now.
