Gas Chambers for animals

Yes...they still exist in states like NC, VA, GA and others. I found this article on the web from an animal control officer.

http://www.animalliberationfront.com...ChamberMan.htm

With all the publicity...I cannot believe money is still being spent on these kill boxes.

Ok...off soapbox.

No, Katie, I'm glad you posted this;

For those that don't think they can stomach the whole article (although I think it should be required reading and they should even make a movie out of it that everyone will be required to watch), at least consider this quote:

"They are in heaven now, I tell myself. I then start cleaning up the mess, the mess, that YOU PEOPLE are creating by not spay or neutering your animals. The mess that YOU PEOPLE are creating by not demanding that a vet come in and do this humanely. You ARE THE TAXPAYERS, DEMAND that this practice STOP!"

So the next time you complain about needing lower taxes or the next time you let your dog or cat carry a litter to term or the next time you purchase a purebred animal, think about this quote.

I just can't believe that something that we as humans can ommonly hold as one of the greatest atrocities of all times (that is, the deaths of millions of individuals in gas chambers in WWII) is happening to animals in this country TODAY and we still don't spay every single animal we own. OR that we're not absolutely up in arms about this. I just don't get it.

Adopt, don't buy.
Realize the committment of a pet is FOREVER and that things like moving and allergies can taken care of.
And most importantly, SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS!

Gassing innocent dogs and cats is cruel and barbaric. The Coalition for Animal Justice and Saving Shelter Pets have joined forces to put a stop to it.

If you have a second, please sign the petition.

That is so sad and tragic.

I've heard that some of the rural counties here in GA use large metal dumpsters with a hole cut for a pipe as their gas chambers. They're not air tight so gas escapes and oxygen is let in and it takes the animals longer to die.

I wish that anyone surrendering their pet to a kill shelter would be required to read that story before signing their babies over.

Julia...I believe that is why Save the kitties formed...they are trying to get as many cats/kittens out of Gas Chamber shelters as possible....however, there are still too many states that use a Gas Chamber...it's very sad.

Issues like these are why I sometimes wish that there were fewer states rights, or at least, certain basic rights for all humans and animals in the U.S.
Gas chambers, and the state-by-state penalties for bestiality are two big topics for me; I think that gas chambers should be outlawed, and all crimes of bestiality treated as felonies

This is not just an issue for the US. My new kitten Sydney was saved from being gased by a local shelter from an animal rescue centre. It makes me ill just thinking about it.

The week before we picked her up over 80 pregnant females were gased in 1 week (according to the animal rescue co-ordinator)

More attention needs to be drawn to this issue..so thank you so much for starting this thread!!

True. The scene in other Asian countries are exponentially horrifying.

It is devastating how great and small nations cannot take care of their weakest members, the animals. I do not know how to put it more striking, spay and neuter. From my home country, the Philippines, city impound still do electrocution, no one comes out of their home without seeing abandoned and suffering animals in a five-minute drive. Dog and sometimes, cat meat, are still traded and sold for food, fur, and even toys.

People who get squeamish reading that article get a wake up call, and If you live in a third-world country where human, and animal life, stirs lesser value to others, this is frustrating. I am happy I find groups who supports these causes. That is why no matter how tired I am, I always cannot compromise my voluntary work into promoting S/N program. This fight is a lifelong battle to most of us who care for animals

This is just horrible. I did not know this still happened in shelters. I signed the petition and will gladly do anything else to see this get's stopped. This is just not exceptable in this day and age. It's very sad to think we question whether to put a cold-blooded murderer to death but kill innocent/defenseless animals that have done nothing wrong in this brutal way. Very sad world we live in and another reason to please consider adopting from your local shelter.

Ugh. I had trouble getting through that article. I had tears in my eyes the whole time and now I feel extremely sick. No living soul should have to endure that. That should definately be required reading for everyone, especially those who don't see a reason to spay and neuter. Anyone with a heart would understand.

Which is why it is important to work towards eliminating the use of the Gas Chamber.

I honestly think it should be banned and the only way an animal should be pts is in loving arms by euthanasia.. not being choked to death by gas. It's so inhumane on MANY different levels. they shouldn't have to cross the rainbow bridge that way by being choked to death by gas.
