Hello all..

My furbaby Chessy isn't feeling well.. I got new meds becuase she's been sneezing so much, but she lays around and just doesn't have much energy.. She still eating like the piggy she is,, but she just isn't her full self!!

How can you tell without checking rectal temperature if she has a fever???

Her nose is kind of warm. It isn't wet and cold like Angel's is..

Thanks
Heather

When JC had a fever, her nose was dry and if you touched her forehead it was hot. I don't know how reliable that is, though.

I could feel the heat coming off my cats fur. But their fevers were very high -107. Also, I feel their ears. I have heard that feeling their ears isn't the best way to check, but my vet told me to keep checking their ears, to make sure their fever didn't come back. So far so good. I hope this helps.

There is no othey way to tell if cats have elevated temperature than taking it with a termometer, rectally. All other "sensing" is unreliable at best. Vets use a little lube on the termometer. Also, it is a good ideea to take the temperature two-three times in a few hours, to verify the realibility of the termometer and of the method. 107 is very high so is a good ideea to double check. Good luck.

107 was high. That's how I could feel the heat coming off of their fur. Four of my cats had a variant strain of distemper. One of them died. The vet was able to save the others with alot of hard work and tamiflu.
