I adopted a stray last Tuesday. She was brought over from the restaurant next door to my office, she was found under a car, and of course everyone already has enough kitties, and couldn't bear one more. Needless to say I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her.

She had obviously been attacked by (I'm guessing) a dog, she had scabbed over wounds on the back of her ears and back, and an oozing eye. Having a 9 year old kitty and a 2 1/2 year old Shiba Inu (puppy). I went ahead and took Honey (the new addition) to our current vet the same day.

Honey seems to be in good health, but her eye was so infected the vet couldn't even get it open to examine it. He gave us Falcon drops to give every 4-6 hours, and told me to come back in a few days (charging $45, which was fine).

I waited 3 days and went back (another $30 charge?). I was told that the swelling had went down, but still couldn't get the 3rd lid to open. He said it was kinda stuck to the eye, and didn't want to risk injuring the eye further. He then recommened that Honey see a specialist that only comes in town once a week, and could cost over $80 just for the visit.

I would realy like for her to see again, but I think the specialist is a bit out of our price range at the moment. I haven't read any other topics about the 3rd lid being stuck, and any sugestions as to how I could take care of this lilttle angel would greatly be appreciated?

I would be sure to apply warm compresses several times a day. You could always go for a second opinion at another vet. Ask friends and co-workers for a recommendation. That's how I found my current vet.

Honey was seen by the specialist today, she was diagnosed with FHV, and symblepharon. He said it wasn't as bad as I think, and IF it's bothering her then the best thing to do is remove the eye. It doesn't seem to bother her so, I guess I'll let it be.

When searched I found a definition on Symblepharon and it said it's "the adhesion of one or both eye lids to the eyeball"

He said in this case she was probably born with FHV and it was so bad the conjunctiva swole and grew attached to her eye before she even opened them.

She still can't see out of that eye, but we're happy it wasn't something extreme.
