Even though I just tuned 49 my twin sis is thinking about a trip for our 50th birthday. She is divorced and lives in VA while I am here in WI, close to our parents and have lots of SIL & BIL and nieces and nephews.
Tradition in hubby's family demands a 50th bday party (I'm the youngest!!)
But sis never takes a vacation except to come to Wisconsin.
She wants a warm place with umbrella drink so she says Key West, Nassau or Bermuda.
I replied NYC (I've never been there) or Vegas (I think she is including DH on the trip).

What suggestions (no Hawaii or Europe at this time!!) do you have????????

NYC or Vegas would both be fun! I've been to NYC but not Vegas. Are you a beach person? Key West would probably be great too! My vacation plans next summer are to go to Miami and Key West.

Have you ever been to Destin Florida. Its really beautiful. Sugar white sand beaches, shopping, lots of restaurants. Outlet malls, nice hotels. Did I mention there were lots of outlet malls for shopping?
That is where we normally vacation. I have been oging there since I was 7. The water is gorgeous!!

There are sooo many nice beaches in Florida. I've never heard of Destin but it sounds great. I can recommend St. Augustine, Daytona, Clearwater (beautiful!), and Ft. Lauderdale.

Actually my mother wants DH, my stepfather and I to go to Key West for her 50th next year. I loved Key West and I want to go back again. Plus I never got to have the frozen key lime pie dipped in chocolate on a stick.....oooooh I'm drooling at the thought of what that should taste like!

So that's my suggestion!

Umbrella drinks? I did my 40th in Cancun and my 45th in Puerto Vallarta. I highly recommend the later - great beaches and waiters to bring you umbrella drinks while you lounge the day under a beach umbrella. And all you really need to learn in Spanish is: uno margarita por favor (one margarita please), or aqua purificado por favor (purified water please).

I have a couple of years until my 50th - I'm thinking New Zealand!!

I guess the first question, to my mind anyway, would be: what interests do you share? You can't celebrate together if there's not something there for both of you -- or at least enough for each of you that you can share each other's delights equally, and neither of you feel shortchanged. Once you figure that out, perhaps some destination will become obvious.

How about a nice NAP !!!! just kidding, why not a nice weekend Spa somewhere that would be fun, relaxing, and make you feel wonderful to boot, and you can still catch a nap

And don't forget...Donde esta el bano? (Where is the bathroom?)

Gail, what kind of stuff do you want to do on your vacation? Are you looking for someplace with lots to do or a more kick-back-and-relax kind of place?

Vegas in July would be HOT HOT HOT! It is desert and can be 120 or more in July. So if you chose that, be prepared.

I have to find out if she wants to actually go in July-too me no fun if I go t someplace warm in the summer!!! Well since we are twin we both like shopping, reading, exploring new places-I can't just park myself in a beach chair for more than an hour or two.
