Why did you call your furbabies what you called them?
Is it because of that splodge on their nose? The stripes on their backs, or their breed?

I called Tabitha Tabitha for the obvious reason-she's a tabby!!
and I guess it just suited her

Both my older girls are from shelters with names already::
Well Angel is white,, and very soft,, So when I got here they called her Angel Soft.. and we call her Angel for short!!

As for Chestnut,, we'll she is brown and black,, and I guess her black colors reminded them of chestnuts.. I keep accidentally calling her butterscotch,, becuse that what she looks like to me..

As for the stray baby we just got,, we named her Kella,, becuase my daughter loves that name,, she is 4 yo, and her name is Bella and for some odd reason she likes it because it's like her name but not really...

The boy stray we have we are trying to find a home for,, we names him Alex.. Becuase of Alex P Keaton from Family Ties,, don't know why.. He looks and acts all upity!!

And we just got a home for a cat the other stray,, her name was Ariel. from Little Mermaid,, plus she was very princess like!!

Leo - my dad named him this because his face is very lionesque.
Spike - I started calling him this because for the first few days he would puff up constantly and get those cute little "stegosaurus spikes" down his back

Cupid - has a cherubic face
Mew Mew - always meowed in twos
Merlyn - has always been a "disappearing act"!

I have always had a fondness for long complex names for small animals. To me, it made them seem bigger than they actually are. Also, my step-mother was a dog breeder for a long time, and all of her dogs and names that seemed to go on forever.

8-Bit Wolfgang and Scratch Fury Destroyer of Worlds also sound funny when you are trying to make an appointment at the vet.

We had Luna first. When she was born she was white-ish in color, like the moon, and I liked the name Luna. It was actually one of the only names I could get my husband to agree with. Then we decided to get Nova. Her name was Delia before that, but my husband didn't like it at all. We decided to just pick a name to match Luna. Well, we went through lots of astronomical names, and Nova stuck.

Okay, well, first off you have to understand that my boyfriend and I are both geeks.
We are the product of too much education and waaay too much free time. He thinks "Scrotor" ("Scroh-tohr") and "Testicles" ("Tess-tuh-klees") would be delightful names for our first (human) children, and I think "Heresy" and "Escherichia" (the "E" in "E. coli") would be pretty names for a girl. Heaven help our future children.

When we went to the Humane Society, we planned on getting two cats, a boy and a girl, who we would name Spike and Drucilla after characters on Buffy. We could only find one cat, a boy, so we took him home and named him Spike, fully intending to return to the Humane Society and adopt a girl we could call Drucilla. When we went back, again there were only boy kitties, so we took one home. I suppose in theory we could have named the boy cat Drucilla, because it's not like he would mind being called by a girl's name, but my boyfriend balked at the cross-gender name. We named the kitten Oz, after another character on the same show. I would still like to find a girl-cat to be our Drucilla, but my boyfriend thinks two cats are enough, and I've yet to be able to convince him. We'll see ...

Anyanka (Anya for short) is named after a character on Buffy as well. I loved the idea of a cat being named after a vengeance demon.
Plus the tabby markings on her face reminded me of the character as well.

I enjoy strange names for the vet's office as well. I love listening to the vet tech's try to pronounce her name to call us to the back.

Inky- because he was black.

Shadow- she was black also, and I thought she would follow Inky around like his "shadow". She didn't. (I was my first time to have more than one cat at a time.)

Cleo- the pet store thought he was a female and he was given the name Cleopatra. I kept that name calling him Cleo for short. After finding out he was a male, his name was short for Cleophus (a man's name from the Bible)

Felicia- I think it is a beautiful name.

Beau- I really don't remember.

My kitty Michoud's name has a lot of signifigance. I brought Michoud (pronounced Me Shew) home on August 29, 2005...the day that Katrina hit New Orleans. His name is in honor of all the victims of Katrina (including my parents who live 40 miles north of New Orleans). One of the worst hit areas was New Orleans East in the 9th ward where you will find (what's left of) Michoud Blvd.

Gizmo got her name because when she was a wee kitten she looked like the Gizmo in the movie Gremlins.

Uno got her name because she was the sole kitten of a litter.

Bob got his name because well he just looked like a Bob.

Penelope got her name from a suggestion I got on here.

Charmin got her name because her fur is amazingly soft for a short haired cat.

Jasmine got her name because she reminded us of an cat we used to have.

Moochie got his name, hmm I dunno, my daughter named him and I am not sure how or why she named him that.

Egore got his name because he had such large eyes as a baby that my son said he looked the Egore in the Frankinstein movies.

Jasper got her name from a Little House on the Praire episode and there was a racoon named Jasper and she sort of looked like a baby coon when she was little.

and last but not least is Button. I am not sure why we named her that. I assume because she was "cute as a button"

With so many it is hard to remember

We're a little sick and twisted here at our house!

Ivy - Boston Terrier - "boston ivy". Alternative name rejected, "Fern", same logic.

Lucy - bossy, brassy, funny kitten, and

Ethel - her fursib and sidekick.

Israel - was named by his first meowmy - whose dog, Angel, found him wandering, lost and starving in the wilderness.

Jelly - a Jellicle cat (aka Tux) with smudges on his nose as though he had been licking up some jelly.

Irwin - my son named his Bearded Dragon Irwin after his hero, Steve Irwin. (such a sad thing, God bless his family.)

Casey - a Great Dane who closely resembled a big, gray-haired, good looking, very good-hearted and simple-intentioned friend of mine by the same name.

Ricky Bobby - Well, we needed a Ricky with the Lucy and Ethel duo....and the movie came out...and the cat is a Pixie-Bob lookalike, hence the Bobby....

Velvet got her name because on the way home from adopting her at a very high kill shelter, the song "Black Velvet" came on the radio- it was perfect!

Abilene got a very southern name along with the rest of her sisters
I wanted a southern belle name for her

Jasmine already had her lovely name when we adopted her- and I think it's perfect for her!

Isabella is my little princess- and well, it was just the perfect name for her!

Mikey Elton John Tiny Dancer
AkA michale, big mike, miguel, mike, michael joseph
I call him mikey cause when he was a kitten he was totally a maniac! running around clawing to the side of the couch, just a nut. so mike the maniac!
I love elton john so i had to through that in there!

Stewie Killer Griffin
AKA peanut,dirty stew,what the?
my boyfriend named him and said the only way we could keep him is if he named stewie. My bf is a huge fan of Family guy. I was hoping we could have named Charlie or Ernesto.

Khan and Lola

Khan was named after the snake in the jungle book..later found out the snakes name is actually Ka not Khan and no we are not star trek fans. Lola got her name because she is a freaken SNAKE and it sounds so girly and so pretty you wouldnt expect a 4 foot snake to have that name.

My sister and I brought home a kitten to my Mom, years ago, a little tortie manx-y thing. The kitten LOVED the smell of coffee and tobacco, and sadly for me, happily for her, I smoked at the time and am STILL a coffee fiend.

Mom named her Lola after the song, "whatever Lola wants, Lola gets".

Well, I was from a 60's-70's era, and Lola, to me, was the Kinks.

I promise this is true: took the kitten to the vet for Mom, the girl asked her name, I said, "Lola. L-O-L-A. Lola."
How many times in life do you get an opportunity like that?
