Sierra and I have trusted Natura for years, and, with her little
sister, continue to support and recommend their quality products
although we, unfortunately, are needing to find a new food due to
the change in formula of their Lite cat canned. This is the reply I
received today in response to a recent inquiry to the company. We're
still disappointed about the necessary transition, but as this
offers great promise for a food we may enjoy in the near future, I
wanted to be sure we all received this information. Hope this is interesting to some and perhaps will help others on their quest for the purrfect food!

"Dear Stephanie,

Thank you for contacting Natura Pet Products. I must report that
Innova Cat Lite has been officially discontinued with no hope of
resurrection. The reason why we made this decision is precisely why
you like the food – because it is so low in protein.

Natura never intended Innova Cat Lite to be used as a therapeutic
diet & our only label claim is for it to be fed as a feline
maintenance diet. Nutritional research with cats over the last few
years has shown that adequate protein intake is extremely critical
for cats, and lower protein diets may not be a healthful choice for
normal felines. As part of our original nutritional philosophy we
made a commitment to stay on top of the latest research in dog & cat
nutrition, and to keep our products up-to-date and as healthful as
possible. As such, we made a decision to discontinue Innova Cat
Lite due to its low protein and to formulate 2 new diets (Reduced
Fat & Senior) as replacements.

So, I know that doesn't help you with your situation, but without
spilling all the beans about our new product development program, I
can tell you that we are working on a product that will specifically
address your needs. The bad news is that it will be a year or more
before it will make it to market. In the meantime, I hope that you
can find a therapeutic diet that will work for your kitty.

Thank you for your feedback & support of Natura pet foods.

Wow well at least they were nice enough to email you back and explain it to you. You didn't get just an automatic response or something. That sucks that they are discontinuing the food you fed yur cats though. Is protein generally something you want more of or less of? Or does it depend on the kitty?

Yes, it absolutely was good of them to email my with this explanation. I really respect this, and, as I said, continue to stand by their excellent products.
Cats require adequate protein in their diet for proper health. CRF kitties need a diet lower in protein and phosphorous since their kidneys are working somewhat less effectively.

And I just bought two cans of Innova Lite for Odo yesterday...I guess there wasn't much point in doing so.
