This Sucks

I work at a well known sub sandwich restaurant, and as of right now, there is like no employees. There is 2 different stores, and between the 2, there is like 9 employees. I am a full time closer (I work by myself after 7 or 8pm and close the store) and the other girl who was a full time closer quit today and her last day is Thursday. I'm going nuts because shes making me work soooo much. On top of that, 3 weeks ago a closer got fired, then the next week one got fired and one quit. This week the girl who worked monday-saturday 9-4 started college and a few more went back to high school. This leaves like nobody to work. She hired 2 new people today and fired one already because he had car trouble and couldn't make it in. She hired a new girl like 2 weeks ago but shes horrible. She takes an hour to do paperwork (which takes 5 minutes), she screwed up so bad closing the store on Sunday night so everything was screwed up yesterday.

I know nobody cares, I just wanted to get that out because its driving me crazy that I have to work so much. I wanted Saturday off but now I cant get it. Last night at work I was bored so I called the girl working at the other store (the one who quit today) and we were talking about how barely anyone works there anymore and if anyone else quit, the manager would be screwed. And then the next day...she quits.

aww, that sure does suck! I am sorry she quit. keep your chin up! btw we DO care! It sounds like you need some you time..take a bubble bath and just relax.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if anyone would really care because the majority of people work 40 hours a week anyways. I just hate it because I have to work until midnight. There is no such thing here as time to myself. When the cats arent around, the dogs are. If I try to take a bath, Zebra sits outside the door and meows until I come out.

What a stressful time of it you are having! I know that you have a rough job and a lack of good employees makes it 100 times harder It seems like your boss isn't exactly in tune with what it takes to get and keep good help I have worked in places like that and it is so stressful because when you are understaffed, the customers are underserved and become irate & too often take it out on the remaining loyal staff I hope that your manager gets an epiphany and realizes that if she doesn't make things improve very soon, her few remaining employees will quit and she'll be running the whole show by herself!
As for you, the fact that you haven't quit shows that you have more character than all the rest of the crew combined and I hope that someday you find yourself working in a wonderful dinnerhouse where the money is good, the hours short, the guests pleasant and entertaining, and the coworkers are the best

I'm soo sorry sweetie. I hope things start to look up for you. You sound really stressed out. I hope your week picks up a bit and they hire some good help. I'm sending major vibes your way!

I hear ya and I feel your pain! I also have a manager that will procrastinate until things are so bad you just want to smack her in the head and do it yourself. Is there anyway you can hire someone yourself? I mean if the manager isn't willing to do it, then why can't you?

I would have quit except I am going to school in a few months and cant afford to.

that does suck. I was in retail for years....it's like a small slice of heck. And no fun when management is not doing their job by adequately staffing the place. I feel your pain. At least you get overtime right????
