is if they are carrying boxes.
That's what Trent and Ophelia thought today, anyway!

We just moved into our new townhome and today was spent moving boxes around to the right room and into the crawlspace. Both cats were quite convinced that when Meowmy picked up a box, she ceased to be Meowmy and became an EVIL AXE MURDERER that had to be fled as quickly as possible!!!
Now, as soon as I put down the box, I became Meowmy again and could pet them and they would follow me around....until another BOX was picked up!!
Silly kitties!

That is hilarious! lol
....My abilene would have done the exact opposite- she would have attempted to jump IN the box and investigate lol.

Ours do the same thing - boxes, laundry baskets, whatever. But as soon as we put them down they have to climb in, and all is back to normal. Strange!

Heidi, are you sure they aren't seeing you as a moth?

Heidi, that's so funny!

My kitties are like that with hats and umberellas!
When I wear a hat, they have no idea who I am and gingerly try to investigate - as soon as the hat is off, I'm Meowmy again!

(they don't seem to care if I dye my hair dark though!

Axe murderers also carry crinkly plastic bags. It's a fact -- just ask my cats.

Spike will attack a vacuum cleaner in order to "protect" me (he's convinced the vacuum is following me and intends to do me mortal harm), but if he hears a plastic bag crinkling, he's under the bed like a shot and won't come out until the sound is gone and he can't see the bag. Oz is just a big ol' scaredy-cat when it comes to all loud and/or sudden noises (which is funny, because otherwise he's a very confident, assertive cat).

Both cats adore boxes, which have been placed on this planet for the sole purpose of entertaining them. If their humans are carrying said boxes, the humans are in danger of being pounced upon and the boxes wrestled away -- regardless of what heavy and/or breakable things are inside them.

The vacuum will have all 3 of mine looking for a place to hide, plastic bags however are crinkly and fun and must be licked and played with so aren't left out anywhere (although someone has discovered that the food cupboards are stuffed with nice crinklies)

Gosh, they are such weird little creatures!
Mine get absolutely freaked out when I put on my heavy winter coat and put the hood up. That must be when I appear to become an axe murderer.
