Ok, so I got this packet of 130 questions over the summer and im stumped at the last few questions.

Here's some of them. Theres 9 left.

Here's one:

6 + 4
__ __
5x^8 3x^6

And another:

4 - 4a
___ ____
a-3 5a-15

Any help...please!!!????

Those are fractions, and the little uparrows mean the next number is an exponent!!

Maybe its because I'm a...
if by exponent you mean to the power of i'm getting-

18x^6 + 20x^8 all divided by 15x^14. the 15x^14 can also be written as (3x^6)(5x^8).
and
-4a^2 + 8a -60 all divided by 5a^2 -30a +45. the 5a^2 -30a +45 can also be written as (a-3)(5a-15).
I did it by cross multiplying the bottom half of the fractions. I hope its right, you may be meant to carry it on a stage, but given my year of further math and my 6weeks of summer holidays thats the best i can do.

Use your order of operations, my dear.
PEMDAS-
Parentheses- anythin inside of a () goes first
Exponents- then the exponents (remember a power is the number of times the number is multiplied by itself)
Multiply
Divide
Addition
Subtraction.

Also, when you're trying to isolate an x variable, do the opposite calculation to the opposite side. for example 3x=12 is the same as x= 12/3

That's about the best I can do. It's been about 4 years since my last math class!

You know I used to be so bad at math until about 8th grade and then everything just clicked- I could do it all but now... I've forgotten
Math has been my favorite subject since but it's all gone now, rats!

I think everyone's browser is a bit different. The first problem, is it:

"Six-over-5x-to-the-eighth" PLUS "Four-over-3x-to-the-sixth"?

Let me know, then I can help.

OK, first of all, thanks everyone for helping me out with this.

Cata_mint- thanks for all the help. Cross multiplying would be for a problem that you are multiplying or solving. This one we were adding. But I completely understand. I know when I'm out of school, Ill never be able to remember anything like that. You're a lot better than my mom!!

Lionessrampart- yes, i knew all that stuff. The only thing that I forgot about is that you have to multiply the denominators by certain values for the values to equal the same amount.

and thanks for all the help everyone!!!

Yes, you have it right kluchetta. Thats it.

My sister helped me when she got home, although she helped me wrong and she just remembered this morning, so I had to redo part of the problems!!!
Thats what you get for being in the mathgeek class!

Thanks so much everyone

All righty then - sorry I didn't help much, LOL.

PS, was the answer for the first

Well, you must be very smart. My kids are 13 and 14 and I KNOW they would not know how to do that!
