Hello, I recently bought the cutest cat toys, they were shaped like sushi, and watching my babies run around with a giant peice of fish in their mouths is almost worth the $14.50 I paid for them (a set of six
)
This got me thinking... Dogs have a large varity of unique toys, and cats are limited to the catnip mouse, bell in ball, and the string on a pole. On the rare occasion I find a cat toy that i have not mentioned above, it's extreamly overpriced.

Has anyone ever seen or can list a website featuring unique cat toys?

Welcome to TCS!!!!! I hope these sites help you! If you need anything, feel free to pm me and i'd be happy to try and help you! What are your kitties names? They sound very cute

www.petco.com

http://www.cattoys.com/
http://www.madcattoys.com/ - this site has really creative things!!!

My cat's absolute favotite toy is called "Da Bird"- all of them love it and they are all different ages. Many pet stores sell it- but if you can't find it at a pet store- this site sells them too.

Mine also love those little sparkly Pom pom balls from the arts & crafts section at wal-mart!!!! They love them!

Also, if your kitties don't already have collars and id tags, this site is awesome!!!! They also sell collars at some pet stores. My Velvet has the pink and white Sushi collar! It's adorable on her and is completely kitty safe should she get stuck on something
. All of my girls wear their collars and id tages even though they're indoors only- i wouldn't want to chance it if they get adventerous and try to make a run for it

You bet there are more toys than a few catnip toys or bells in balls! There are faux fur toys perfect for wrestling with, catnip-alternative toys such as honeysuckle and valerian (or valerian mix), all-natural wool toys (including ball type), plastic corkscrew toys that bedevil (kookie kurli-qs), and classic toys such as the kittybird which works with a cats natural instinct to hunt.

There really is a huge variety of cat toys out there.

I highly recommend Plain Brown Tabby, one of our sponsors. You can find the link at the bottom of this page. They carry a very wide range of toys, and Abby gives them two paws up!

Thank you guys so much for the website links, and thanks for welcoming me to TCS StarryEyedTIger!!!
I really like the da bird thingie, and the cat collars are so bright and colorful, and Plain Brown Tabby has a few cute toys as well.

Catnip alternative toys? Is there somthing wrong (dangerous) with catnip that I don't know about?

For those who are interested in cat collars www.almost-human.com has some of the most beautiful collars. Dispite their breakaway claim, I have been warned away from them by other posters who believe them to be dangerous. I can still dream of my cats sashaying though the apartment with them...

Not all cats are catnip responders (they have to inherit the correct genes as well as be old enough - age of sexual maturity, which can vary considerably between breeds and depending on who a domestic cat's ancestors are).

Catnip alternative is just describing that both honeysuckle and valerian *may* have a non-catnip responding cat, responding like a catnip responder would to catnip. In other words, valerian and honeysuckle toys may get a cat who doesn't like catnip, acting just as silly in their response.

No problem
Let me know if there's anything i can help you with or if you just need help navigating the threads! Glad you liked the sites. My girls all love da bird too!!! - I've also been warned about the www.almosthuman.com collars, so i won't use them on my girls -even though they are adorable
....i just stick to the Rogz collars or make my own when i'm feeling creative.

Also- there's nothing wrong with giving cat-nip to a kitty. It's completely safe and non-toxic. Sometimes, however a cat doesn't respond to catnip, so instead owners will give them honeysuckle or other things instead. Always make sure whatever you give your kitty though that it is non-toxic first and won't cause stomach blockage. The aspca has a list off all plants that are toxic and all of the ones that are non-toxic on their website. I've found it very helpful
(i'm a florist
). Have a good night! If i can help you with anything else, feel free to pm me and let me know

Here is that aspca list for you: http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc
