Swallowed thread

I was sewing last night and had a small clump of thread that was left on the side to be thrown out. My little guy was watching me for a while and the next thing I know he jumped up to the table and chomped that clump of thread. Well needless to say I tried pulling it out of his mouth but was unsuccessful. My question is, should I be concerned? Will he just poop it out? Any help is appreciated.

Please get your kitty to the vet as soon as possible. It is possible that he will poop it out, but it is also possible he won't and it could wrap itself around something inside and make for a horrible dilemna for both of you. If you have mineral oil around, I would mix about a teaspoon of it in a tablespoon of wet food and see if he will eat it. That might hurry it along. Your kitty could be fine, but then again, there is a chance he could develop problems.

I called the vet and she said just to keep an eye on him. Make sure he's eating and pooping normally over the next few days. She said it will probably (break down) in his poop. Thanks for your help.

That is a relief! Thanks for letting me know. I had a kitty once that got into hubby's tackle box. Swallowed some fishing line and the vet had to pull it out. I am glad the thread was of absorbable material!
