Not long after we got Lily, we discovered Stumpy had a bunch of little scabs on her neck, then we discovered more, slightly bigger ones on her back around her shoulder blades.

I've just noticed a few more on her back.

I've assumed this is just Lily playing a little too roughly, but I thought I'd better ask - is there anything else it could be? I'd say she has about 5 of these scabs on her back at the moment, at various stages of healing.

She's an inside cat, but does go outside for walks on her harness. Could it be allergies, or some sort of skin problem, or would it just be Lily? She has her Soft Paws on now, surely she's not biting hard enough to break the skin???

From what it sounds like to me it could be an allergy. My cat Princess get little bumps/scabs due to a flea allergy. One flea can cause a major problem with Princess. I never even noticed any fleas on her but through process of
elimation her vet and I figured that could be the only thing.

Have you used an new cleaning product, laundry detergent, foods, ect?

No Vacancy...One on the way!
sounds like a flea allergy.
My old kat Baby had them. He digested some fleas and started getting very very sick, lost a lot of fur on his tail to the allergy.

get him check out asap. and ask your vet what products are safe to use in your home and on your kitty.

boy i hate those fleas!

I just Advantaged them last night - it was a bit late this time because we got the new kitten, and we wanted to wait 4 weeks since she'd been done so we could do them at the same time.

I guess we'll see how it goes after this round of Advantage, and if it keeps on happening, then see the vet.

Hmmmm here's a thought... When we got Lily we got the fish-filled Meow Mix wet food because it was suitable for kittens.

I wonder if she has a fish allergy???

My first thought would be allergies. Does she scratch the area where the scabs are? Two of my cats have had seasonal allergy problems in the past. I never did determine what caused it and they have been OK the last two years. They both had steroid shots every 5-6 weeks during allergy season. I always knew when it was time for a shot when the scratching increased. Good luck finding the cause of Stumpy's problem.

It's definitely possible. It's not uncommon for cats to have an allergy to fish. I know our two kitties won't touch anything with fish in it.

We've been away all weekend, so the neighbour was feeding the kids, and we said to just feed dry food since we've been separating the cats for their wet food.

Stumpy had more scabs when we got back! If I take her to a vet, are they likely to be able to diagnose the problem, or is it just trial and error with different foods?

The scabs are kind of between her shoulder blades, so she's not scratching them - I have no idea if she's itchy though.

Ok, we're off to the vet tomorrow to get checked out.

Big day - Lily's shot at midday at the shelter, then Stumpy's appointment at 4:30 at the vets! Lily's shots will cost about $20 at the shelter, or $80 at the vets! I'd rather do some running around rather than pay the extra $60 or so...
