There are stray cats that come and cry at my window. They must smell my cat, and my cat is not happy about this. She gets very upset and agitated. She has medical problems and cannot have stress, as this aggravates her condition, so I keep the window closed. She loves to look out the window, so I don't close the shades. I work long hours, and when I came home one night she didn't look well at all. I'm guessing maybe one of the cats was at the window and it upset her too much. I've seen and heard these cats in the evening, and also during the day and night on the weekends.
I would like to help these cats. I don't know if they're strays or feral, or if they belong to someone. My super keeps at least one cat to keep the mice away. They are usually young and spend the night outside. The last cat he had was a small young one with an awesome personality that wandered the neighborhood. This kitten was not spayed and had an upper respiratory infection. I called the ASPCA and was told that it's not against the law for the super to do this. I know that this kitten has a great new home, taken in by a nice lady who found her wandering. Before his previous cat disappeared, I saw 2 ferals twice his size bothering him. I told the super his cat was scared and wanted to be let in, but to no avail.
I feel so sorry for these cats. I was told that people here let their cats out to wander, so I don't know if they really are strays, or if they have an owner. Since my cat's vet bills are high, there's only so much money I can spend on them. Food would not be a problem, but medical bills (spay/neutering, vaccinations, etc.), would be. I've seen at least 4 cats.
Does anyone know of a low-cost animal clinic/hospital in the New York City area that would see these cats at a reduced price (if I can trap them)? And they do need some kind of shelter. Any advice and information would be greatly appreciated.
