Play with him - get a good fishing rod type toy - they all seem to love those, sit with him while eating, give him treats occasionally, etc. Be patient & you'll be surprised at how quickly they become attached. My new female Maine Coon has been with me for 6 weeks & will now cry if i leave the room or close a door

i would agree with darincm just play. dont force him/her to be with you most cats are independant by nature. another thing i would say is make sure he knows you feed him eg. put the food down when hes in the same room that way he will see you as a good thing and be more willing to bond!! hope tis helps. oh and one last thing sit with him if he is laying down or sleeping slowly sit down next to and talk quietly and softly(sounds strange but it works) when ou think hes happy slowly reach and touch him if he flinches stop and carry on with the chat. he will soon learn to feel at ease in your presance.

My kitten has really come around in the two months we have had him. I really wanted a lap cat -- well I have one at about 5:30am! I rolled over on my back this am (sleeping) and he decides to lay on my chest. After a while he gets up so I lay on my stomach -- he then decides to sprawl out on my back!

Anyhow, as to your question, feed him, pet him as much as he will let you, never restrain him or force him onto your lap, talk softly to him, and give him A LOT of cat treats! If he knows that all good things in life come from you, he can't help loving you.

Also brushing works wonders, not only to get rid of excess hair, but also in building a bond. My cats adore being brushed and Abby in particular. She isn't really a cuddler unless it's on her terms, but when I want to cuddle her all I have to do is show her the brush and she comes running and will let me cuddle and brush her for hours.

I have a wire clicker brush that has bent wire bristles so that it catches the hair but doesn't scratch the skin. With it being made of wire I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't hurt their skin so I tried it on my own head before using it on them and it doesn't hurt at all and actually feels quite nice.

Good advice - I also make a point to get down to their level often. Sometimes I'll just lie on the floor & let come play around me, or play with them while on my knees.

As my wife says - they have me wrapped around their fingers
