Now that's just RUDE! Seriously - being fired by email? That's just cold...

Well we could all just not shop there ( Not that I do anyway) That's really pretty darn petty and rude I'd say. Someone doesn't know how to do there job in an adult manner.

Wow! How cold and heartless can they be!?

Cowardly, too, ya know? Couldn't manage a little humanity!

That's what I was thinking!

thats aweful!!!!!

That is awful, we had an employee who quit by email (with no notice too) and we were annoyed at that, but to be fired by email is just wrong

I am glad I don't shop there. I can't stand their stores and their incompetent employees. Maybe that is why so many of them were fired. It was still a pretty rude thing to do.

I dont have to take user support calls, but i often get bored if nothing breaks. So the last week i log my phone in and take call from a guy saying his account is locked out. Said he had been trying to get logged in for the last 3 days but had been in traveling for meetings and stuff.. Well i go and look, he had been laid off the week tbefore. his account had already been removed.

I asked him when was the last time he had spoken with his manager, he told me right before he left on the business trip.

Yes the guy was laid off how he was was on the other side of the country, and no one called to tell him this.

How totally rude...and..well IMO unprofessional.
Hmm...if hopefully Ford and GM doesn't decide to do this. They announced lay offs over the next few years in the thousands!!!

I can't remember the exact story, but there was a company in the UK who laid off staff via text message!

Understandably, there was uproar!

That's just downright TACKY!

Technology is wonderful but, this is going just a bit too far. Recently, Muslim courts, in Indonesia, ruled that it is legal for man to divorce his wife, via text message.

I sent Radio Shack a nasty email yesterday telling them I would no longer be patronizing any of their stores.

I never received a reply. Go figure.

One of the attorney's on my answering service did something very similar. Early monday morning, he called me and asked me to call his secretary at home, at about 7am and tell her to read her email before coming to work. In the email he had fired her. All I thought was what a whiney wimp he was. Not man enough to tell her himself in person, and to make her wait all weekend to find out she was fired, on top of all of that.

It just infuriated me, and to tell you the truth, I really hated calling her. This freak of an attorney goes through staff like no one's business. He's got a new secretary about every 2 months or so.

And is it any wonder?? That poor woman -- I don't care what provocation there was for letting her go (if there was!), that's not the way to do it!

oh wait that is a good thing

I agree that it is rude but somehow I think I would actually feel better if someone fires me via email than in person. I cannot interpret facial clues well and it would just circulate in my mind again and again until I figure out what went wrong.

At least if I was fired through mass email the burden and the blame would be off me. I can blame "The Man" and I would have people to commiserate with me.

Wow, I would hate it. I would feel so worthless and insignificant and helpless. With emails its so easy to pass the buck, and I'd want some answers
I admire you hopehacker for actually being able to make the call. I'd have found someone else to do it

I don't know I think I would rather be fired by E-mail or whatever.
That is horrible. Have the gall to tell them to their face.
lol, wow, amazing...a new low.

That's how I would feel - it's one thing to be fired, but your boss doesn't even have the ability to tell you in person?

I think that I would have NOT called her and just told him I wasn't able to reach her. Then he would have been forced to do it himself. Yep, he is a wimp. I can't stand wimps.
