I know you guys are probably all tapped out in the prayer department, but if you have an extra minute to include my SIL & BIL I'd really appreciate it. Elisa (my sil) is the one who found out she was pregnant, but they told her not to think of it as a baby, because it was going to abort itself, and won't take. Then when she was still pregnant a week later, they said well your levels are too low, it's not going to attach to her uterus. 2 weeks later they did an internal ultra sound and the baby did attach, but her levels were low so they had to put her on progesterone. Her insurance wouldn't cover it, so it was $250 for 8 doses, they were spending $1000 a month for the 1st 3 months. Now that she's in her 4th month they are telling her that her baby tested positive for downs syndrome. There is a huge possibility that the test is incorrect, this test is wrong often. But they are still very upset, as all parents want their baby to be perfect. This is a huge heartache for them, and a very difficult time. I have told her all the things that she needs to hear: that we will all love this baby no matter what, that it is God's plan-whatever happens is what is supposed to happen, that if this child has downs syndrome thank God it was born to them instead of some horrible parent that won't give the child a wonderful/patient/loving home....and so on. So if you could spare any of your important time with God, asking for a healthy baby, and comfort for Elisa & Damien, I'd be eternally greatful.

Thanks everyone!!!

Oh I am sorry to hear this but you are right sometimes that test is wrong. When my sister was pregnant with my nephew they told her she had only 2 vessels (it's called Two Vessel Chord) going to the baby and that he would have Downs or some other stuff He was absolutely PERFECT she was sick for months her whole pregnancy was defined by this. She knows how lucky she was.Now he is 5 and the class CLOWN!!! I will remember your SIL and BIL in my prayers this is such a scary time. Keep us updated.

I send my best wishes.
Since the doctors already has been wrong twice I wouldn't trust them to much. This is obviously a baby who really wants to be their baby, no matter what. How ever it turns out to be this baby will be something special.

This is exactly what I told her.... before she knew she was pregnant she went to the Pearl Jam concert, the tailgate partying started at noon, and she didn't get home till 1am....needless to say she was completely intoxicated. I said "honey, if this baby can make it through the Pearl Jam concert, it can make it through anything!" she did giggle at that one!

Thanks everyone for your warm thoughts/prayers/wishes!!!!

Ok, so far I have good news & bad news & no news at all....

My sister had to go to a genetics specialist for the amnio....it hurt like heck, and the needle was huge (she said I'd never have made it through!). They are sending the fluid to Baltimore for genetic testing, where they will count chromosomes etc, to find out if the baby has downs syndrome. The bad news is that they also got positives on 2 other horrific diseases....1 is a skin disease that cracks and peels and bleeds from head to toe, the other is SO bad that the baby would be completely NON-functioning, basically a vegetable. But they will know if the tests are correct in 2weeks when they get the results back.

The good news: When they did her ultra sound, they discovered that she is carrying a girl! Yippee! Because the skin disease is only genetically possible in a boy. So she already beat out 1 disease!!! What a brave little fighter this girl is!

But my ? is, how can the baby test positive for a skin disease that's physically impossible for a girl to have, and she's definately a girl!?!? It's so frusterating.... I will keep you posted in 2 weeks.... they are going through such a rough time....and the doctors are advising her to terminate the pregnancy if the tests show the baby has the non-functioning disease. This is especially difficult, as abortion is not in our beliefs, and she would be mourning the loss of her baby....

Oh that is so sad
...One thing though girl babies are stronger so hopefully that will help. It's so hard to comprehend any of this, a sweet innocent baby, and FREAKS are running around doing horrendous things and nothing happens to them!
The next 2 weeks are going to be so hard for them I can't even imagine, I will surely remember them in my prayers this just breaks my heart in two

So sorry for both your BIL & SIL and your whole family!!! I know how heartbreaking it is when you want a baby so much, and then you find out there maybe problems. I hope you know that there are alot of good vibes coming your way. Prayer does work even the medical profession has started to agree somethings have no explanation and things work out just fine that have been no hope. Will be praying for your whole family!!!

Heather...........almost 4 years ago my sister in law suffered two miscarriages. She got pregnant again, and this time didn't abort. As her pregnancy went on, she was told all kind of awful medical things about the baby, that he would be deformed, etc. There are medical terms, but I don't remember what they're called at the moment. One of the head guys at the hospital here suggested she terminate the pregnancy and let them autopsy the baby.........she said absolutely not. She was determined to give this little one every chance! Well, needless to say he pregnancy was horrific. She imagined all these terrible things................this is the result of it all.

ignore me!

He does have a heart condition, and he's had 3 surgeries. He needs one more soon, and that should be that..............SOOO, I say never give up hope!

Sorry to hijack your thread!

You are so right Bella, that's what the docs said. Girls are WAY stronger than boys, and if the baby has downs, girls live like twice as long and function twice as higher than boys do.... and yes, I could just throw up thinking of all the idiots who smoke/drink/do drugs while pregnant, and they have a perfectly healthy child. But then I think, God doesn't make mistakes right? And if there are going to be downs syndrome children in the world, then I am glad that they will have Elisa & Damien as parents....the child would be very lucky to have them.

Thanks for all the thoughts...it is very appreciated!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all of the prayers/wishes/vibes for my SIL. She got the results from her amnio back, and all looks good so far. They said that the baby only has the 21 chromosomes that a normal baby is supposed to have, where a baby with downs syndrome would have an extra set instead of 21 from mom, 21 from dad, the egg sometimes produces 2 sets of 21, this is what causes downs syndrome. So this is good. But they are sending the few cells they have left to some dr in Germany, to do more detailed chromosome testing to look at the formation of the chromosomes.... but we'll see. As of right now, we are celebrating!!!
And I sincerely thank you all for your warm positive thoughts!!!

I'm glad to hear that the tests came back good so far!!

Please keep in mind that these tests can be very very wrong. When my aunt was pregnant with her second child, they told her there was a 90 percent chance that she would have downs, and would never be able to fully function. The doctors pushed and pushed for her to abort. She didn't. Now 14 years later Hailey is a normal happy healthy child and always has been. She's hardly ever even been sick. No sign of downs what-so-ever.

I will still be keeping you and your family in my prayers!! Lots of healthy baby vibes coming your way!
