Hey everyone. I'm kind of new to cat parenthood, so I need a little help. I've had cats before, but never my very own. I chose the breed of Siberian since they're widely regarded as the "dog of cats". This is my little guy Figaro. I picked him mainly because I heard that "red males" are of the most affectionate. He's sure to be a cutie, but I was wondering if anyone knew what I should expect him too look like. I"m not sure how dark his coat will be or if the white on his face and legs will fill in. I'd really appreciate your input. It would be amazing if you could maybe post some pictures of the adult cats you'd compare him too, but if that's too much work, then just some verbal predictions would be great! The breeder described him as a "cream mackerel tabby and white". Thanks so much. Hope to hear from you all soon!

Caitlin

I would call him a cream mctabby/white - he does have body stripes. If one parent is a tabby, he's probably a tabby too. Cream tabby and white is an acceptable Siberian color. I believe its like the maine coons - all colors accepted other then pointed.

I don't know enough of the siberian standard to tell if he's show quality. Did you buy him for showing (in the altered class) or just as a pet?

I'm with GK on the color - isn't he too young to be judged on quality??? Siberians were accepted for Championship status only this year and I can't wait to see what comes out of the shows!

Depends on how well the breeder knows his/her lines and the standard. I bred rexes and I could tell from the time they were about a week old, which would be show and which would be pet quality. Only once or twice did the show one not turn out as good as I thought when growing up.

When you've shown enough cats and paid attention to the winning cats, you can start to tell the standard and evaluate. You can tell the body, legs, boning and head type. I don't know the Siberian standard, so I can't tell from the photos.

I could tell a show quality siamese/oriental kitten at a few weeks old

It's very impressive that you're able to tell which kittens could be show quality and which would be best as pets. But I don't plan on showing my kitty. I picked the breed, as opposed to a humane society cats, due to it's disposition. Other than that I'm a little lost in the area of Breeding and Purebreds. I've only even had rescued cats. In other cats, is it common for the white spots to fill in a little with colour? Or the colour to darken?

No, where you see white now, is where it will be all time - no changes. The color sometimes darkens, but cream should stay cream. The only changes you might see is in the torties or blue creams. Since red/cream takes longer to develop, you sometimes have more red show up latter in torties.

I had a tortie rex kitten that only had one tiny body spot of red and a dot of red on her head. By the time she was fully grown she had more red thru out her coat

And with pointed cats, they are born white and the color points darken later.

my guess is a Red Cream Mackerel and very lovely! might look like this...

but could be a tabby like this!

scroll down to the second kitten on this page http://www.siberiankittensforsale.co...04-26_CI-2.htm

Wow, some nice cream tabbies! And you can see the resemblance to the maine coons - they had to have some of the same ancestors long time ago.

The posters kitten (looking at pics again) could be either mackeral or classic. Its a little hard to tell from the shots - if you get a clearer picture of the side, we could tell the kind of tabby.

One of my favorite colors on a longhair is a cameo - white fur with the cream/butterscotch color on top - I know some friends who breed a lot of cameo maine coons, and they are breathtaking

Still cannot tell - they just don't want to be known

Anyway, if macks, the striping will be vertical (up and down). If classic, you should see a "bullseye" pattern on the side.

Whole litter is nice and colorful too

Yes, he's a cream mackerel tabby/white all right...The best indicator of what a cat will look like as an adult are its parents and other close relatives. Take a look, if you can, at the kitten's parents/other grown relatives, especially those with the same or similar colouring as your kitten.

OOOH, what a cream puff!

Gorgeous kitten! You must love him so much! Glad to meet you both and since I'm posting this on Sept. 26th, you've probably gotten a lot of answers already, so I won't add to them except to say that I and my 9 rescued, indoor-only, spayed/neutered felines are glad to be on this great site/forum!
