I grew up in a family who always had dogs. We couldn't have cats because I was allergic to them. I met my husband 13 years and he comes from a big cat loving family. At first, everytime I would go to his mom's house, I'd have an allergic reaction because of her cats....but as the years passed, I was outgrowing my allergy. Don't know if it's because I was subjecting myself to cats or if I was meant to outgrow the allergy either way.

Anyway.........now I have 3 cats of my own (the latest being a pregnant mama I rescued from under my deck). My other cats were rescued as well. How I became a cat owner??? Well, I was working at a gas station part time, and one of my regular customers came in and asked me if I could help him find a home for a kitten he had found (he wanted me to post a sign in the store). He brought the kitten in for me to see........and as soon as I saw her (she was tiny)........I fell in love with her. At this point, I wasn't sure if I could even live with a cat because of my past allergy issues.......but I decided to give it a try. So, needless to say.....that sign never made it on the window. Now, that cat (Kit Kat) is almost 5 years old!!!

My 2nd cat......who I know for sure is a Siamese mix.....joined our family in spring of 2005. We were visiting relatives out of state and this cat had been hanging around their property for some time, but they couldn't take him in because of their other cat (doesn't like other cats in the house). So, I conned my husband into letting us keep him.......which we did. When we took him to the vet, they estimated him to be about a year old. We named him Sammy.

The 3rd cat.........just joined our family last week!!! I had been noticing her for some time wandering around and she would sleep under my deck. Once I noticed she was pregnant.......I brought her in the house. I took her to the vet and as it turns out........her babys are due any day now. So, now we're playing the waiting game.

So, basically that is my story. I came to these boards to seek advice for my mama cat (which we have yet to name) and couldn't be more happy with all of the help and wonderful advice I've received.

Hi Barton & Family:

Glad to meet you all! I'm posting this 27 Sept., so I suppose your Mamma has had her babies by now. I would have recommended getting her to her doctor a/o but I suppose it's too late. Anyway, I do hope ALL of your cats and kittens have forever loving homes and that Mom and babies get spayed/neutered at the earliest opportunity (for Mom, after the kittens are weaned at 8 weeks minimum; for the little ones, 4 months would be a good age...)

Hi Tara..........yes, momma did have her kittens. They were born on September 1st via c-section. Momma was having difficulty, so I brought her into the vet (who had seen her a few days before) to have him check her out and he advised to do a section. She ended up having 6 kittens, but 3 died within the first 2 days. The other 3 are thriving. They all have their eyes open and are walking around now. They are absolutely adorable. I had the vet fix momma when he did her section, and I have already discussed having babies fixed as well. I'm going to try to find all of the babies a home, but until that happens, they'll be with me. I refuse to just give them up to anyone. They are so precious and seeing how much that momma went through to have them, and how much I had to go through emotionally, financially and whatnot............these little ones are going to placed in special homes or they aren't leaving mine!!!

Hey Barton and fams:

Well, thank you so much for getting Mom fixed and for intending to get babies fixed, too; and of course, all life is sacred and we are responsible for those in our care, so of course it goes without saying that they be adopted only to loving and caring, responsible homes! A multicat family is a joy; but whatever is best is what I hope happens. So sorry three did not make it; that is always hard, but when one knows the truth about cat overpopulation in this place alone, one can also see it as a blessing that they did not survive to face uncertain futures.

ALL THE BEST to all.
