Hello, I bought some Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie from petfooddirect.com, I've opend about 5 cans so far of it. Each can has had some small black pieces in it. I've also noticed some small chunks were very hard (while smashing it up with a fork). I was just wondering if this is normal for Merricks cat food? The expiration date is July 7th, 2009. Thanks

hello there, i feed my lil' guys one can of either "Turducken" or "New England Broil" just about every day. i've never noticed any black pieces per se...but i DO notice many large chunks of fish, or other meat which are sometimes hard(ish) and sometimes contain a bone or two...but my guys just spit 'em out, and i'm not really worried about it. i actually like the fact that i'm seeing real pieces of meat in there as opposed to some sort of mystery-gruel. either way, the stuff was recommended by a friend i trust, and my cats love the stuff!

I've seen what you are talking about in our Granny's as well. I just assumed that since it is a high quality food, that whatever it is wouldn't hurt them. I must say though that they prefer the Thanksgiving Dinner.
