Leo was switched from Authority/Petsmart to Science Diet and then we went through no less than 3 holistic foods (let's see...I think we did little bags of EVO, Prairie, Cal natural and Nutro) before settling on Felidae, which seemed to be the favorite (he's picky). He's been having fewer hairballs and vomitting episodes than he used to have. He sheds a little less and the texture of his coat is about the same (it's always been very silky, thick and soft). Both of them also defecate less.

Raphael is an interesting case. He has IBD. He came to me eating a mix of Science Diet dry and grocery brand wet. We immediately switched him to Eagle Pack Duck and Oatmeal, plus the Felidae and a mix of probiotics/digestive enzymes AND metrondidazole (Rx). He did ok on this, but his appetite wasn't great and he ended up losing quite a bit of weight. We switched him to an ALL-WET, grain free diet of Wellness Chicken plus the probiotic blend and twice weekly cobalamin-folate injections and he's put a lot of weight back on and he has stopped vommitting, but he still has diarrhea a few times a day (although now he has the odd formed stool here and there.). His coat is LUXURIOUS. It was dull and rought when I got him and now it is sooooo soft (this happened after theswitch to Wellness) and he's put on (and kept on!) weight. Now, if we could just figure out the diarrhea, we'd be in business.
Try a true grain free ( hard to find )... the wellness has flaxseed which many cats dont tolerate and I consider a grain after a few folks explained it ...

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Natura's Innova Lite wet as every day diet. For treats, Natura's California Natural Chicken and Rice or Deep Water Fish and Rice or Merrick's Ocean Breeze or California Roll.

Both of my cats eat W/D Feline dry which I buy at my Vet's office. I'm switching them both to the low cal next time though. Chynna was a fatty and Abby was nice and svelt, so I had them on 2 different foods, but they refused to eat their own and kept eating each others', so the Vet just told me to give them both the W/D Feline. Now Chynna is a real porker and Abby is getting a tummy on her, so time to put them both on a diet along with their Momma (*points at self*) hehe

just want to let you know that cats can be allergic to certain types of meat (chicken, beef, fish) as well as certain types of grains. you arent guarenteed allergy free cats by feeding a grain-free food.

Nutro Max dry and wet. (The gourmet cans.) My cat loves it, she definitely enjoys the wet food like the Beef Roguet (sp?).

Nature's Logic Rabbit Dinner dry (and sometimes wet.) Gizmo is allergic to chicken and even though she loved the California Natural Chicken and Rice it was not good for her.
The Nature's Logic has extremely high protein content, uses a small amount of millet to hold it together, and unhappily has a bit of chicken fat...but when I saw that Gizmo was developing a heart condition I chose a brand with 'neutraceuticals' over the Royal Canin rabbit and pea, which was more like peas with a little rabbit (mostly carbs and chemicals.)
The result is that Gizmo did not have any heart anomalies during her last exam, her coat is like mink, and she is running around (though with the occasional asthmatic attack in a dusty room.)
I would recommend this cat food to anyone; it is an excellent brand.

We usually use eagle pack dry and wet for all 12 cats, including the kittens. Wet in the morning - 2 cans split 11 ways, so not a lot. Dry is free-feed. Recently we've been adding in Pet Promise (www.petpromiseinc.com, available at Wild Oats) dry to the eagle pack dry, as the cats seem to like that mix, and I'm alternating wets between PP and Eagle Pack. I tried raw and they didn't like it. Our natural pet foods store owner is really pushing wellness, so we might try it. These are all premium foods, so we spend a ton of money every month feeding these cute little mouths, but their health and coats are much better.

Maybe its because I'm a...
I have no idea what I want to feed my kittens, just something low on corn, high on goodish quality meat and available in England. Not sure if my dad would agree to have food shipped over

I learned something new a few months ago. The size of the kibble is important. I switched my kitties from Nutro Natural Choice Kitten to Nutro's Indoor Formula a few months ago. CC developed blood in his stool. When I saw it I rushed him to the vet and was surprised when she said it wasn't an emergency situation. He was having trouble with the food. The kibble for the Indoor Formula is almost twice as big as the kitten food.

I put them back on the kitten food until CC's stools looked normal again. Then I switched them to Life's Abundance (small kibble, premium quality). Last week their vet informed me that thay are overweight, so I'm going to gradually switch them to Felidae Platinum, which also has smaller kibble.

As far as wet food goes, CC won't touch it. I've tried every brand that doesn't have things like "animal digest" or "animal by products" (If they won't say what kind of animal it is then they are trying to hide something). AJ eats Spa Select.

The ferals that showed up are eating Nutro and Merrick canned with Natural Choice kitten (They will be TNR'd soon).

this is true, because some cats dont actually chew their food very well (although mine do but i still get small kibble) and the larger kibble is very hard to digest. what you can do though, is grind up the kibble in a chopper/food processer/blender. i used to do that for my little dog. that way you can still feed the kind you want. it really isnt much work at all and you can grind it all up at the same time and put it back in the bag for storage.

I currently have my kitten on Purina One-Growth and Development. Yeah I know store brand but he's been doing great on it. I have been seriously thinking of switching Nutro primarily because it has no by products but I haven't fully made up my mind.

I feed both of mine Purina Cat Chow -- Complete Care Formula. Is it really that bad??

I was feeding Vinny Science Diet Adult Hairball Control when I first got him -- it's what he "came with." The lady I adopted him from said he wasn't much of an eater, and man was she right -- the small bag (I think it's 3.5lbs) lasted 4 months, which I thought was WAY too long. Plus, he's 8 years old and figured he should start eating a Senior Formula. I started him on Purina One Senior Protection, which the vet recommended I not do because he "didn't need a senior diet yet." Shortly thereafter I got Sherman, who was still a kitten -- so I opted to get a food that would be ideal for a multi-cat home.

Needless to say, I now go through a 3.5lb bag in about 2 weeks and Vinny's appetite has increased tenfold. I also noticed that when we were feeding him the Science Diet, he was actually getting hairballs more often and vomiting whole kibble (everday, sometimes twice a day), whereas since he's switched we've had one hairball in the past 2 months, and no vomiting.

I'm thinking he didn't particularly care for the Science Diet and didn't like the size of the kibble since he couldn't keep it down too well. Plus, with the way they have been eating, I can't afford to feed them Science Diet.

my parents always fed their cats the supermarket brand wet and dry food. all of their cats were healthy, played outside, were well behaved etc. all the cats lived up to the high teens. whiskers is eating whiskas, since he was a baby, and he's as healthy as can be at the age of 10...tummy works the way it's supposed to etc. the higher quality food i am sure is the best, sometimes i think it depends on what each cat likes though
