Boy, that sounds fun to me!! Back in the olden days when I lived in Hawaii with my exhusband, that's exactly how we spent Christmas.......a big barbeque on the beach........I remember taking aluminum foil, throwing lots of veggies and spices into it,(including the potatoes) a little bit of water, wrapping it up very tightly, and throwing it into the coals of our fire.......we didn't have turkey though..........we had chicken!
I really missed my family that year, but it was lots of fun......

Have you thought about smoking the turkey? My father used to do it all the time when we were kids, and it was wonderful.
Mac and Cheese is always good. You could also make some coleslaw with winter cabbage. The easiest thing you could do is mashed potatoes, IMO you could make them a day in advance and no one would be the wiser.

While living in australia, we usually had bbq's or atleast ate out on our patio on christmas day.

We just had chicken, as my dad doesnt like turkey, foiled potatoes, fried capsicums with onions, and im sure there was more but i cant remember.

My best friends grandparents make lasagna every year for christmas day!

Movin' on up!
I go to my DIL's parents', for Christmas. Tamales are trditional Mexican Christmas fare and Sam's Nana, mother and aunt spend days making them. Combining traditions, they also serve ham, sweet potatoes and other veggies.

Left to my OWN devices, the only thing that I ever make, for Christmas dinner, is RESERVATIONS.

That doesn't seem so strange to me. We have spaghetti for Christmas day every year. It's a family tradition that started when we were kids. It took so much time for Mom to make the big dinner, and what she really wanted was to be with us and help us play with our new toys. All of us kids' most very favorite food was her homemade spaghetti...and she could put the ingredients together the night before and just let it cook all day so she could be with us. Now that we're older, we won't let her change the tradition...and my nieces and nephew are the next generation of spaghetti lovers.

Yeah!! Christmas BBQ's are awesome! We would generally do the meats in the days before and have cold ham, cold turkey and so forth. Pasta salad, potato salad, freash seafood.... Yum yum yum.

We were always at my nan's by the beach, or at my other grandparents who had a pool (this is back in Australia of course). We'd spend most of the day in our togs and towel
