i just saved $127.00 (Canadian)
- Listen to every word a receptionist or vet doctor says and write the information down along with the person who you talked to, and the date and time you talked
- Ask for prices from more then one person in the same establishment
- Phone other clinics and compare
- Read the contract(s) CAREFULLY!!!
- Ask what the procedures IN DETAIL are and if they are absolutely necessary. many times vets will inflate the importance of a chargeable service
- Bring a stopwatch in when being charged for the minute for a checkup
- Research the net
- Be Assertive and STAND UP FOR YOURSELF!!!
here's the story:
i'm getting my three kittens neutered. i was told by the receptionist (on the phone) and the vet doctor (in person) that i only had to have one examination before the fixing. i was also told that there is a boarding charge of $10.00 for overnight stays by one receptionist. and that my three kittens would cost $27.00 by another receptionist.
so i had the exam and everything is good. i was told to bring the cats back in 3 weeks and they would be all ready to neuter and have booster shots all at the same time.
i bring the kitties back in 3 weeks and they tell me that there is a $90 checkup fee for the kittens. i said that they were already checked out and that the doctor said they were fine. she then told me that its mandantory that all animals have a checkup right before being neutered. i questioned to myself why my kittens would need 2 checkups for one operation.
so i told her that both the receptionist and the vet doc told me that there was only one checkup (which was 3 weeks ago) and that i didnt have to have another one. i then asked the lady to bring the doctor in. 5 minutes later the doctor comes in and says a policy has changed
BUT, since he told me that i only needed one checkup that he would waver it. theres $90.00 right there.
i never signed for any boarding fee so i'll not pay the $27.00.
$90.00 + $27.00 = $127.00 in my pocket where it belongs.
thanks for listening
