So I have a 2 1/2 year old Maine Coon mix. He is a very social and affectionate cat, but has a bitting problem. 99% of the time his attacks are towards my girlfriend. I've read the biting information thread which has really good info, but how do I train him not to bite while we are sleeping? He will bite her usually 3 times a night usually on her head, sometimes on the face and arms. What do we need to do?

Have you tried putting him out of the room when he does this? My cat just started biting me while I'm sleeping. He's only done it twice, and so far I haven't been awake enough to boot him from the room.

We have closed the door on him, but to be honest we haven't really stuck with it. When we do, he crys and rams himself into the door until we give in. Why do you think he attacks my girlfriend rather than me while we are awake or asleep?

My guess is that she responds in a way that he prefers.
As hard as it is to listen to the crying and ramming, if you give in he wins. He will know that as long as he keeps it up, he will eventually get his way.
