Has anyone seen this behaviour before?
We have seven feral cats living with our two domestic cats. Five are kittens and the domistic cat in charge - Zasha - has slapt the most curious kitten a couple of times in the face when he didn't respect her hissing. Our Zasha and Izzy doesn't like the kittens but the accept them as long as the keep a 30 centimeter distance.
I thought we would have an issue with the feral mamas but the cats has sorted it out with pretending that they don't exist. They can pass eachother on a close distance with a completely neutral body language and without seeing the other cat. The feral mothers doesn't even react when Zasha corrects their babies. It is as if we have two dimensions in our home. One with the feral grown cats and one with our domestic cats and only the kittens kan pass between the two worlds. They have devided our ground floor in two parts. Zasha and Izzy lives in the living and kitche and the feral cats in our storage room and bath room but they visit eachoters area without a problem. Is this normal or are we just lucky? can I expect this peace to be permanent?

I'm assuming that your domestic cats are both female? You would probably have an issue had they been males. Feral colonies typically consist of many females that jointly raise their young with perhaps a couple of males to oversee them all, or all male colonies.

It is normal for any cat to correct kittens when they are misbehaving. The fact that the moms are not responding to this tells me that they are accepting the members in the colony. Had this been an outsider that they didn't accept, the moms would be much more protective of them.

Sounds like you may have permanent peace, but to make sure it continues, get the moms spayed as soon as you can. If they go into heat or have more kittens, there is no guarantee that this behavior will continue.

Nice that it might continue this way. The mum's are already spayed and yes Zasha and Izzy is spayed females. Do you think they will ever interact?
We have a male cat who visit us sometimes. (we have a cat door, which for the moment is closed for going out but open for coming in since Zasha and Izzy is partially outdoor cats) He is not neutered. Once he was trapped inside and I found him completely terrified in a corner with two kittens, at the time 8 weeks old, keeping him on place. I have checked with our neighbours and he seem to be a stray. Next time he visits I will take him to the vet to be neutered.

It is very possible that they will interact. The fact that there is no BAD interaction now is a great sign. If they live together long enough, they could form bonds that you would never expect right now. The one thing that I do know about cats for certain is that you can never fully predict their behavior towards each other!

Good for you that you are getting him neutered! That could add a twist to your situation if he remains intact. A visiting male in an all female colony is actually also quite normal and probably keeps the feral females (who are used to that happening) feeling assured. If you get him neutered, you might consider keeping him as your "token" male (if your household can support another cat).

Everything is possible if it has to be.
Nine cats as we have right now, is too much, especially since I share custody with my ex-husband for five cats in Sweden also. If something happens to him they are my responsability. We will put some of the kittens up for adoption when they are healthy and socialized but if no one good enough comes around, they stay with us. There is a russian lady a few hondered meter from us who feeds this stray and she loves him. We have another bunch of male cats visiting our garden so for the moment I am running a neutering campain in the neighbourhood.
The cats we keep will have a chip, owner proof and full vaccination before they can go out. For the moment we are building a cat garden to buy us some time but when they are truly tame they will have the chanse to go out again. All cats around here know eachother but there is cat fights every night. I think if I succed in my neutering campaign that the fights would get less and we could get rid of the nasty diseases the carry but they are to many to take them all in.

You are absolutely right about the fights and disease. That is the entire purpose behind trap-neuter-return (TNR) campaigns in the U.S. Doing this not only controls the overpopulation, but prevents the spread of disease because they are less likely to fight and mating often spreads disease.

You are an absolute saint for doing all this on behalf of the cats in your neighborhood!!!! There aren't enough people out in the world like yourself.
