I'm kind of divided on this. I think he's a good actor, and I've liked most of the movies he's been in, even the ones I thought I'd hate (eg "The Last Samurai"). On the other hand, his behaviour makes me intensely uncomfortable and definitely puts me off wanting to see anything he's in, because it's hard to separate the movie role from the wacky stuff I keep seeing and hearing in the news -- it jars me out of the movie I'm watching, because I'll suddenly think "This would be a great time for him to jump on a couch now ..." At the same time, too, I was deeply offended by his comments about post-partum depression and the use of medication (as someone who has suffered from depression and required medication to correct it), and that makes me less inclined to want to support him financially by seeing anything he's in. I realize I'm just one person and my $11 makes no difference to him, but I'd rather give that $11 to someone who doesn't freak me out or offend me on a deeply personal level.
I also realize, however, that I'm biased about this. Scientology and its followers scares me -- we keep getting a "newspaper" about this, it's addressed to a previous tenant who hasn't lived in our apartment in over a decade, and the more I read about it, the more uncomfortable it makes me. Everything about it screams "scam!" because it's all about sending money to the higher-ranking members to attain personal enlightenment. I'm at the point now where if I find out someone is a Scientologist, I'm immediately put off -- and I hate that I'm finding myself bigoted against them, because I consider myself open-minded and tolerant.
