i will be taking stool samples of my 3 kittens to the vet this saturday. i plan to put the samples in small plastic airtight containers...

i was wondering if they can be stored for a day because i'm not sure if i can get a sample that day. if so, would i store the sample in the fridge?

the poor kitties each have blood in there poop.

thanks

Do you have to wait till Saturday to bring them in? Mine usually just has me drop the sample off. Or you could call and ask about their prefered storage method.

At the animal hospital where I work, we recommend samples be at most 24 hours old, and should be stored in the refrigerator overnight.

Whenever I have to take stool samples in, I get it as fresh as possible and put it in a ziplock bag with whichever's animal's it is name marked on it and then put the ziplock in a brown lunch bag (just so everyone doesnt have to look at it) and stick it in the fridge until I go in... the fresher the better

No Vacancy...One on the way!
zip lock it..and store it in the fridge. make sure ya mark it with the date and time you collected it at. for your sake, the vets and anyone going in the fridge for a snack.

I once had to store snake poop over night....nothing like somewhat visable rat remains in poop!

I had to store some poop and the vet said DO NOT PUT IN FRIDGE. He said it kills any parasites that might exist and they will not get an accuate reading.

Just put poop in a baggie and put it on a shelf......... hehehe
