WHat does chin acne look like on a cat, what causes it and how do you get rid of it??

I'm not sure, but I think that Lexi may have this.

Thanks!

Chin acne is small hard bumps. They may be under the fur, or raised black nodules. If the cat scratches it it can be a bloody scab. Gizmo scratched her chin and her 'bump' bled.

Scuffy had it before. Try dipping a towel on warm water (as long as your kitty can take the temperature of warm water), and put it where it is affected. I did that everyday for a week and it was gone. If does not help, try changing your food bowl.

actually I had a ceramic food dish when Gizzy developed the acne and was advised on this forum to change it to stainless steel. I can see the grease and mess from the food more clearly here than with the ceramic and it's easier to clean.

Ceramic can be bad when the glaze gets hairline cracks in it.
I use nothing but stainless.

My two 2yr old boys had some very bad acne, we wrapped them in a towel three times a day and scrubbed their chins with Phisoderm.
Problem was gone in about two weeks.

Thank you guys!
Unfortunately ceramics is the best I can do. Pet stores in Manila sell pet dishes that are all plastic, ceramics being quite rare, stainless steel almost nil (very expensive too). My cats had acne with plastic and since I switched to ceramics there hasn't been any problem. I'll keep an eye on cracks though.

We use stainless steel as well and they are never used twice without washing first. I have about 8 of them so I always have some clean when the dirty ones are in the dishwasher.

i use the premium stainless steel Catit bowls:

- Super Heavy
- Hygienic and Sanitary
- Dishwasher safe
- lifetime gurantee
- Non Skid Base that is 'imbedded' inside the bottom of the bowl (no black unhygenic rubber to take off and wash the insides of)

an amazing bowl imo. very expensive. but the best i've seen yet.

i use the tiny .30L Catit bowls to feed my cats their dry food and the 3L Dogit bowls for their water. the bowl is so shiny it mirrors the cats image in the water and sometimes makes them jump back.
i also like the 'squeaky' sound you get when cleaning them. it gives me that little extra hope that the bowls is clean and sanitary.

good point

i'm gonna ask the store if they can order in 2L bowls. because 3L seems a little big. its all they had at the time when i was there.

as for plastic - NEVER!

actually, stainless steel is always the first thing people recommend, but if you can get hold of clear glass that is even better. just the normal glass bowls that you find in the hyper market is fine. we swopped from plastic to stainless steel and then to glass. glass has cleared up acne in all the cats.

i've read that it is actually a way that cats get rid of waste that builds up in the body. "wholisticat- archive"

what i do is use an old tooth brush which has gotten very soft, wet it, and run it through her chin every morning and then rub her chin dry with some tissue. i've read a post by another lady who used a bit of apply cider vinegar ... but i have not actually tried it myself.

i like clear glass too. i think pet companies dont make them because it can break much easier then ceramic, plastic and steel, and harm your cat.

i bought an awesome clear glass dish for my cats and then thought, "what if they break it?
" i liked the dish so much because it for so clear and smooth. and glass does not scratch as easily as steel or ceramic. and it cleans to a 'squeak', but i wont use it if it can break.

if i found one i'd like it to be a heavy duty clear glass bowl and i dont think that's an easy find - i've been looking.

so stainless for me
