We've recently adopted to kitties and are having a ball. One thing we are noticing is that Sohphia frequents the kitty litter more so then her sister Maya. We had a severe issue with our former cat, he eventually died as a res
ult of a urinary issue so maybe we are a little paranoid. Is it possible for a cat this young to have cycstius (sp), or other urinary issue such as UTI?

thanx for your help

At that age I would just suspect that one is better at holding it than the other. Kittens need to go quite often. Or one likes to drink more water. If it is really unusual amount of times then maybe... But I would think you would see more signs like peeing outside the box and such.

thanx for responding so quickly. I hope you're right. Like I said, we are still very sensitive over the loss of our previous boy, Charlie. We've never had kitties this young so don't know what to expect. So far, she's "keeping it" in the litter box. We'll keep an eye on her.

thanx again

Yes its possible for UTI at almost any age. I'd have a vet check her out. One thing I've heard that if they get UTI at a young age (less then 5 yrs old), they seem to be more prone to future UTI's.

I know that my cat Mitten was about 9 or 10 and had a UTI - it was a one time only, probably due to a virus (vet told me). But he never had another UTI in his life. I also have had friends who's cats got UTI young and she had repeat UTI's throughout the cat's life.

She's due to see the vet next week. Unless she begins to display obvious signs of discomfort, I'm thinking we can wait until then.

I would just like to add that I volunteer at the shelter here, and we got in an 8 week old kitten who was "peeing all over my house & wrecking it". We had him tested for a UTI, and yes, he had one.

Is there any way you can bump up the vet appt? I think the sooner she gets checked, the better. Cats hide discomfort well, so she may already be having touble using the litterbox. I don't know if my guess is right, but if she has a UTI, it is uncomfortable to use the litterbox, & you probably don't want her to stop using it altogether.

I'm curious... how did the kitten turn out? Were you able to cure him and if so, how?

thanx
