I've been seeing a few posts on here about runny eyes, but none seemed too related to my problem.

One of my kitten's eyes has been watering for a couple of weeks now. It looked like it started off clear, but if I don't clean it off for a couple of days it sort of turns a light brownish-red.

He doesn't have any other symptoms and he's as rambunctious as ever, but I'm wondering if it had anything to do with that Advantage flea medicine I put on him (he was 15 weeks when I first applied it and I've only done two months' worth). I'm not positive, but it might have started after I applied it.

Does this seem like a reasonable cause?

I'd take him to the vet, but I'm in a bit of a financial mess right now :\\
Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

I'm not too sure if the Advantage would have anything to do with that
but I would get him to a vet as soon as you can.

My cat, Mattie, a stray I adopted about three weeks ago, has the same symptoms as your cat. The vet said it is caused by the Herpes virus. She has been treated with two different kinds of eye ointment and it is not totally cleared yet. My vet has mentioned he might start her on Lysine, but hasn't done that yet. Yesterday he told me to stop the eye ointment, give it a couple of days, and call him back on Wed. If I were you, I would take the cat to be seen by the vet.
