Here's the link to the original thread: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96309

I just heard back from the organization, and they've processed my application, called my vet and I quote: "everything is a go."

I've just left a phone message for Ferris' foster mom, and left her all the numbers she can reach me at so I can make an appointment with her to go meet the little guy!

Oh boy, oh boy, I'm so happy!

Of course, nothing is concrete yet, and I'm sure that foster mom has final say, but at least I've gotten this far!!!!

I ask again, as I haven't heard from any foster moms, how does this process of adopting a cat out of foster care normally work? Are the adoption fees paid to the organization or to the foster directly? If need be, I'll start a new thread with those questions unless any of you can give me some info.

Thank you ALL for the TCS vibes! So far, so good! Please keep 'em coming until I get final word that Ferris can come and live with Ginger and me!!!!

What wonderful news!!!
I was just thinking about you today and wondering if you had heard anything! I'm super excited for you! As far as adoption fees go- the money, especially if it is a 501 ch3 volunteer run organization, should go directly to the benefit of the organization, not the volunteers who are fostering
because volunteer don't get paid. Many times, the volunteers will just ask the organization for the supplies they need. I foster kittens in my home for several local rescue organizations and a shelter. When the kittens need formula- the shelter provides it (i usually provide the extras out of my own pocket
) When they need a trip to the vet- the organizations pay for the vet bills. And when an animal gets adopted- the money goes to the organization, not the foster homes. However there are exceptions to the rule, so check with the head of the organization to be clear.
Good luck!!! I can't wait to see pics of little Ferris and Ginger playing together
. If you have any more questions along that line, please feel free to pm me

Woo-hooo!!!!!!!!!

I'm picking Ferris up on Thursday next week!!!!

WOOOOOO-HOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm a LITTLE excited, LOL, can you tell???

I just got off the phone with his foster mom, and he is a feral rescue, her mom does TNR and captured him in her back yard. He is up to date with shots, flea and earmite free, and is a little skittish, but gets along well with the foster mom's other cats as well as her young children, so as long as Ginger accepts him, we should be golden!

I've just made a vet appointment for the 1st, and Ginger will get her rabies shot the same day - now I need to buy another cat carrier, lots more toys - oh boy, oh boy, I'm SO excited!!!!!

OK, new question - is there anything special I should keep in mind knowing that he was born feral?

Aww thats great news !!!!! No advice on him being feral tho, altho I have heard that with a feral their transition with another cat is usually smooth !!!

Since he was feral (or any cat of unknown origin) I would test him for FELV/FIV. Otherwise, congratulations and enjoy your kitty!

Since he was born feral, you need to be prepared to accept the fact that he may never be a lap cat, or it may take months or years to get him there. Since he is a kitten yet, I think he will transition to your home smoothly & do great in terms of socialization.

Congrats!

Patience, is all.
Emma was essentially feral when we got her (we also think she may have been abused prior to living on the streets) and it took awhile for her to be affectionate with us. Over a year later, she still has her "moments" and is just now letting us pick her up without protest. Having Oliver around to show her that people are nice has undoubtedly help her bond with us. Though it at times can be frustrating, it has been extremely rewarding to see her grow in her trust of us.

Congratulations!
I'm so happy for you and the lucky little guy.
I agree with the others that patience is key and just let him settle in at his own pace.

The fosters already had him tested - they are very thorough, I only need to neuter him at this point - and the tests are negative. Yay!
