Hi All,
Sophie is a moody cat. She is about 8 years old. In the past she was on prozac for cats b/c of her moodiness. We all moved into a new house about a year ago. For about 6 mo. now she only goes to the bathroom, 1 and 2, right next to her box. She did not do this in the begining. (She has done this in the past but would stop after a while.) My next step is to put her back on the prozac... which seemed to help but did not cure the problem. I tried Feliway... didnt help at all!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Kindra

Has she been checked for medical problems (urinary tract infections, crystals, and kidney issues)? It's possible she has cystitis. One of the treatments for that is another type of antidepressant which also reduces inflammation in the bladder. It's called amitriptyline. If there is an underlying medical cause, like interstial cystitis, getting the cat to drink more water can help. I have a pet water fountain to encourage mine to drink more, and I now feed mostly canned food.

In the meantime, you could try a larger litter box, such as using a long under-the-bed plastic bin instead of a normal cat box. You may also want to try several litterboxes with different litters to see if there something about the one you are using that she doesn't like.
