OK, my dryer finally gave up the ghost after 17 years. Anybody got a favorite "brand" they think I should get? Hey, at least I get to go shopping!
Oh, wait, I hate shopping.

I bought a new washer and dryer less than a year ago. I normally go with Whirlpool

I swear by Kenmore. That's the Sears brand, although Sears sells others like Maytag, Whirlpool, etc.

I have sears...alot of the brands are made at the same manufacturer (i.e. i think Kenmore and Fridgedaire are the same company...). I love my sears, i did get an LG Fridge (which i love also!). Can you tell when i bought this house that all of the appliances were non-functioning!!

My parents have a front loader - they are amazing, I think its a Whirlpool?

It can hold 17 pairs of jeans at a time, along with all the bedding - bedspread, sheets, everything, for a king sized bed! They have the washer/dryer set, and I love it. I wish I had one, I'd do laundry everyday!

Kim, I'll give you a secret - check out Lowes and Best Buy's Open Box items for some smokin' deals! We just got a dryer at Lowes for 50% off original price, and a fridge at Best Buy for less than half the original price. These aren't returned units (though some at Best Buy are returns, but they still guarantee them for return for 30 days), these were just floor models or models that have cosmetic damage. I'll keep $250 or so for a dent in the side that no one will see anyway!

Our washer died about this time last year and we got a Maytag Neptune front-load washer and dryer that is awesome! We got a great deal on them at Home Depot because they were bringing out the "new" model and it was the "old" model--kind of like with cars. Its the best washer dryer I've ever used, my mom has the same kind in her house and at their mountain cabin and we're all sold on them! Plus they have a great warranty and on-site service which can't be beat.
Plus, the dryer and washer both take the same amount of time to do a load: no more waiting to empty the dryer when doing multiple loads.

According to Consumer Reports magazine (Shop Smart) August issue, you should buy the cheapest washer and the most expensive dryer. The reasoning I have forgotten.

When I saw the title of your post, I was fearful. But, heck, a dryer is a dryer and my wife was lucky enough to check the dryer the other day before pushing the start button because you have got to know who was in there.

Have fun shopping! And until you get one, you have a great excuse now to line dry them outside in the sunshine

Heidi, that's a great idea - I thought that Best Buy had computers & stuff.

I wish I had Mackenzie's folks' dryer. I'd do one load a week!

But I don't have a clothesline, and even if I did, I'm sure the dogs would manage to wreck it!

About 18 months ago we bought the Kenmore HE3 front loading washer/dryer.
Kenmore washers/dryers are made my whirlpool to Sears secs. The dryer is HUGH!! It doesn't get used much however as I use m ysolar dryer (aka Clothes line) for a good 6 months of the year for everything and in the winter we have a wood stove and I have a coat rack that shirts and stuff get hung up on.
My old dryer can from mom and dad which they bought in 1978!! It still worked pretty good (since I didn't use too mcuh) and I gave it too my niece.
