I learned that Feliway causes brown discoloration stains on my white painted window sill. (spray) and that the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda concoction for odors is an excellent cleaner of the stove, window sills, and litter boxes so far.

What helpful tips do you have?

My mom taught me this one:

For any stubborn stains that you just absolutely can't get out...mustard, marinara sauce, etc...

Pretreat it before washing with white vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Just soak the spot in the vinegar first them dab on the soap and scrub with your hands before tossing it in the washer. I've saved many a hopelesly stained item this way.

Try to clean the paint first, and if you can't clean it it may have actually changed the paint's color and you'll just have to do a touch-up. Same with 20-yr-old lemon stains on white cotton. It actually changes the fabric so it's not a stain. Or bleach, more immediately.

I have a question.

What would you do to get litter out of carpet? A little blob of clean litter got wet from someone's shoes, and now there's a quarter-sized stain from the gross slime that resulted (Fresh Step). It's not bad but my carpets were shampooed less than a month ago and I'd like to keep them in perfect condition.

I've recently been looking for alternatives to the huge amount of hazardous chemical cleaners. I found vinegar to be great for a number of household uses. I also use it in my laundry as a fabric softner alternative since my skin was reacting to all softners on the market.

I couldn't get your link to work. Even when I took out the extra "http://"

And I know what you mean. My mom uses vinegar for EVERYTHING. It's because of this that I have a hard time using it myself. Once when I was younger I had food poisoning and she treated me by making me drink straight vinegar until I threw up what was in my stomach. The smell has made me nauseous ever since.
