Hello

Certian rooms in my house are off limits to cats such as other peoples bedrooms. HOwever sometimes cats get in and they HATE this. I told them to keep a squirt bottle in their room and if a cat comes in yell OUT! and give a squirt

Would this method work ?

If it is your place, just tell them that the cats come with the territory and they will have to keep the door closed. An open door means come in to both people and cats.

If the place is in everyone's name and they are your cats, you need to be responsible and keep them in your room with the door closed. It is your responsibility to keep them out of your room mates things and rooms.

Just my opinion

It would work. Ling was kinda taught to keep out of the porch (as we didnt want her running outside). But she would still sneak in there at times.

Good luck in keeping the cats out when no one is there. Best way to do it is just to shut the door. We have a guest room that we don't allow the cats or dog in there. The dog is fine - she listens; but forget the cats - if the door is open they will go in there. Then we have to chase them back out and close the door.

I close the studio door. Gizmo knows that this is not open all the time. But If I try to close the bedroom door (which is usually open) she will jump on the door and force it open.
As long as you set boundaries and limits and keep them consistent it is not difficult to train a cat to stay out of certain places. Gizmo knows "OUT" and "No" and even comes when she's called if she goes into the wrong room. Shaking a can with treats will also lure a cat out of a 'no' place.
