It just occured to me that my mom's birthday is on wednesday. Oy! Why can I never remember this stuff on time!
Anyway, I have absolutely zero idea of what to get her and was hoping someone could help me with an idea.

She's turning 58.
She's a master gardener (but I'm running out of "garden stuff" to get her. I've already gotten her windchimes, a sundial, a laughing buddha statue... and all of the typical garden stuff - shovels, planters, etc - she has a garage full)
She retired from teaching 2 years ago.
She's more tomboy than anything, so anything "cutesy" is out.
She doesn't really go out to dinner or shows, so gift certificates and tickets are out.
She likes to read, but has a stack of books she hasn't gotten to yet... so I think one more book to add to the pile would be kind of silly.

Her main interest is really gardening. She spends hours gardening every day - some in her own garden, some for charities. She's all green thumbs. So, I'm really thinking garden-related would probably be best, but it would have to be something for the gardener who has everything....

Thoughts?

Is there something you could do together? Like some sort of gardening expo or something?

What about a garden hopper? It's a little cart on wheels that you can sit on and scoot along the flower beds on. It has a compartment under the seat to put your gardening tools in. I have one and just love it! I'm a gardening nut too, and this has saved my back big time!

Is there a garden supply shop that she particularly likes? Do they do gift certificates? If not, have a look at this site. They have some really nice stuff, are terrific to deal with, and they do have e-Gift Cards.

What about making her a little gift bag with goodies in it. Like some flower seeds and some nice hand cream for her hands.

Ok, lets see if I can get to everyone

I'm liking this. I'm going back and forth on the idea since I got her a subscription to the Oprah magazine for christmas... but it's definitely in my maybe pile.

I wish there were, but I'm in Florida and she's in New York. It's a shame I can't afford a plane ticket right now.

Those things are so great, aren't they? But of course the gardener who has everything has one already
She needs to stop buying things for herself so the rest of us have a chance when it comes to gift time

Ooh I'm having fun with that site. They have some neat gift ideas on there.

Tom boy varies from not so extreme to extreme. Maybe flowers or jewelry?
Ahh this is very true. I probably should clarify. I haven't seen her wear jewelry since she retired. She really only wears it when she's going to a wedding or something where she needs to look nice, which is pretty rare. She's also one of the only 58 year old women I know who has their own workshop filled with power tools. She's more the jeans/tshirt/sneakers "lets put up new drywall and crown molding in the living room... whip out the table saw" type. But flowers are not a bad idea. They're also on my maybe list as sort of a back up plan.

This probably won't help you right now as it wouldn't arrive by Wednesday but maybe next time. Get your Christmas gift done. It is a bit pricey but I love thier products and I am a sucker for good smells. this is soap and lotions for gardeners.
Putting these together because I might be able to combine the two. A bunch of seeds plus the gardeners soaps sounds cute. Probably won't get to her in time, but then I've never gotten anyone a birthday present on time... so she's probably expecting it late anyway

Thanks everyone! These are really great ideas!
