Oliver's with my family and I on vacation down the shore in North Carolina for two weeks... he's been great, actually relaxed and settled in here a lot quicker than I thought he would... but he was being really strange after we got back from the beach today (he stays at the house of course)... we've gone to the beach every day, so nothing different happened today than since we got here: so I had taken off a pair of t-shirt material shorts and stuffed them inside my red sox cap and chucked it on my bed in order to go change out of my bathing suit... I came back into my room and Oliver was rolling around and rubbing his face all over them, haha... it was adorable and funny and he didn't like ruin anything but I am curious as to what may have made him do this... I've worn both the shorts and hat to the beach previous days, they've gotten wet those days as they did today, I didn't use any different hair product or sun tan lotion, and he's had the ability to check out these things after beach trips before... any ideas?

PS: he's LOVING watching the canal flow by out back from our sliding glass doors and I took him out on his harness for a little the other day to play in the beach grass and sand... it was cute! He's also got a "buddy" cat that lives across the canal from us and likes to hang out on his daddy's boat, haha, I've never seen a cat get on a boat before (of course it's gotta be a natural thing since they used to be mousers on ships, but I've never actually seen it)

Your cat sounds like a wonderful boy.

He's in a new location and adjusting well, but he uses your smell as a 'comforter' since he is sleeping in a strange location. It would be a good idea to let him have one of your worn t shirts as a pillow during this trip but it seems he found some for himself!

and how wonderful that your cat allows you to walk him on a leash and take him on a boat. Cats are conservative creatures and yours seems to be very daring.

There's nothing wrong with him, in fact it sounds like things are going very well for you both. I hope you all have a wonderful vacation!

I made sure to bring along my pillow from home and the blanket he and I sleep with every nite and he's been curling up on that... which will have to do while the shorts are at the beach with me! haha... and I guess it was a little confusing the way I wrote it, but Oliver's the one on the leash and the kitty across the street goes on the boat, haha... Oliver's good about baths, but I dont think he'd be keen about bein out on the water on a boat!

That's so great that you can take oliver on holiday with you, I always really miss villy when we go away. Maybe he was just making sure he got his scent on your on your t-shirt, and getting some of your scent on him?

We came back from the beach today... again I wore those shorts, same thing they got a little wet, a little sandy - I threw them on the bed when I went to swim the dog out back and Oliver was totally uninterested... what a strange kitten!

Wet shorts would certainly not appeal to the cat, and they might contain a mixture of smells that weren't really 'you' to him.

But it is nice to hear that Oliver loves to travel. How nice to be able to take the pet on vacation instead of leaving it with a catsitter or in a pet-hotel.

Haha, he's not the keenest on the actual car ride, but with some meds, he made it just fine! He's loving actually being here though - there really wasnt anyone to leave him with at home and I certainly wasn't going to board him... plus I'd be miserable as well without him for 2 weeks!

So far, haven't seen this behavior with the shorts again! What a strange little monster! Today's a bit of a rainy one and already, he's been a complete terror to the dog! Haha, my poor pup - shall be an interesting day inside!
