Hi! I just found this site because I also just found a random stray cat, and decided to take it in and see if it was anyone's pet. We don't usually see too many stray animals in my town, so it was odd to see this cat. But, I took him home and gave him a MUCH needed bath (though he thought it was the end of his life, I'm sure!) He's a real nice guy, not fixed though, so hopefully we can get that taken care of after we try to find out who his real owners are! If he's nobody's then we'll probly try to find him another (good!) home. We can't have cats permanently because we have two birds (cat saliva is LETHAL to birds) and two dogs, and I don't really want to take the risk of someone hurting someone else. Plus, I'm sure he'd make someone a great pet! He's really friendly which makes me think he's someone's pet, but he had no collar, was dirty as can be, and was not fixed. My fiance's dad said that he's seen him a lot around the area where we found him (it was by a bunch of workshop-type places that people rent) and maybe it was someone's farm cat they brought in to catch mice. So, I hope I didn't do something illegal!!!
But if he didn't have a collar, how am I supposed to know for sure? I went in and asked the ladies that work at the beauty salon right by there, and they said they've seen it, but they were pretty sure it's a stray. I didn't want to leave him out there, just in case, and he was starving when he got here, he immediately started mowing down some food. I also didn't want to leave an unneutered animal out there just in case he turns out to be nobody's pet. Any advice there would be fan-tabulous!

Anyways, my name is Erin. We got our cat (at my parent's house) when I was 9, I think. I've since moved out, and am graduating from college this June.
Since I was 14, I've worked in either a vet's office or a pet store, so animals are nothing new to me! I've earned the title of "Crazy Animal Lady" given to my by my family first, then co-workers, and proud of it!
We currently have 2 dogs: Mija (Germ. Shep./Husky) and Scootch (border collie/beagle), 2 birds: Mango (Green Cheek Conure) and Beeker (African Grey), tons of fish, and of course, "Lil Buddy" our stray cat. It's not his permanent name, but that's what I call everything without a name
I know if I name him, that's the end of it, and he'd have to stay. I'd like to have cats some day, but it just doesn't work to have a permanent one right now.

Anywho, that's my story, more like a novel, but, eh...there's some pressing questions in there!

Welcome Erin!

Hope "Little Buddy" finds a good home.

BTW, I was surprised to learn about cat's saliva and birds. My cats have caught a lot of birds and I was able to rescue and release quite a few.
All of them were wet with kitty spit and did not show signs of poisoning. Perhaps what is lethal is not the saliva but the sharp teeth and claws.

I should clarify. I don't think it's ALL birds that the saliva is lethal to. It may be just the Psitta- kind of birds, like parrots. I think outside birds are a little tougher than the ones we keep as pets. From what I've read, theres a bacteria in their saliva called Pasteurella, and if it gets in the birds, it multiplies very rapidly. So, I guess I don't know for sure, since neither of my birds have ever been attacked by a cat, (that I know of at least, one of my rescues is 24, and has had a cat in her life before, cuz she makes the meow noise
)

Anywho, went and checked on him this morning, and as soon as I opened the door to the bathroom, he was purring like CRAZY, and doing the "I'm gonna itch myself on your legs and run between your feet so you fall down" kind of thing! Such a doll. I bet someone is missing him like crazy!!!
