BWAAHAAHAAHAA!!!! Yup, that just about describes it.

Wanted to add my 2 cents. Being a fairly youngish female (33, but tends to look younger) with a rather endowed front half (no, not by choice, either), I don't get the attention I prefer. Some men, usually the leeches, are the ones who're most vocal. The ones I WANT to provide some attention, don't seem to see me. Well, For the most part I just let it roll off my back... have to... if I let it roll down the front, it'll get caught in places the sun don't shine.

*ahem* bad jokes aside... here's my tale that still irks me to this day, three years later. I was walking home from a Bed Bath & Beyond shop in Chicago... was crossing a rather wide street just north of my neighborhood, headed south. a man... was crossing, going north. Older, and from my rather irritated opinion, quite uneducated. And I mean older as in 70's-ish. My top wasn't skin tight, but not baggy either... fit well. I was not dressed like a hooker either. But I got a lovely comment from this *ahem* man.

As we got closer, I noticed he was staring... and where do you think he was staring? At my *err* grill (we were walking past cars... I had'ta do it... I'm in a goofy mood)... so to speak. As he gets roughly four feet from me, i hear the following words emanate from his foul mouth:

"D**n woman, you got some big'uns!"

I was in too much shock to react... and as he kept walking and the orange hand was flashing at me, warning me that the light was going to change shortly, I just kept walking. But I was p***ed. Still am, to a degree. Bad taste.. bad taste, indeed. Some men just need to learn how to either compliment properly, or keep their traps shut.

I'm with ya sister... really, I'm there. Men are pigs... and presumably there are some good, singles out there, but I haven't seen much proof yet.

Okay... I'm off to bed now... I really do need sleep.
zzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz......

I think such behavior is carved deep into the male's DNA. All that testosterone gives us different urges than women have. It's in our nature to fight and mate. As men, we can rise above that behavior when it's not appropriate, but many don't.
That's the difference between a man and a male.

It can be upsetting indeed, but I usually go for the "give them a dose of their medicine" approach.

Back in my military days I was sent with a group of officers and soldiers to take part in the peace talks. It was in a hotel in Eilat, and we were all in civilian clothing. There were other people too, not all military. Anyway, waiting for something, we were all in this lounge and the TV was on, showing Baywatch. I was the only woman in the room, and the guys there (about 3-4 of them, some senior ranking officers) began drooling over Pamela Anderson jiggilng her stuff on the beach. One of them said something like, "why don't they send us such hot chicks over here?". I told him, "when they send us David Hasselhoff lookalikes, instead of balding overweight old guys, I guess".

It was a bit rude, I know, by my general who was there loved it lol, and he wasn't a David Hasselhoff lookalike either. He told me later that it's a good way to teach men what women feel like when made to feel inferior to the Pamela Anderson's of the world.

Nice. I like your strategy
Isn't it great to give rude men a taste of their own medicine sometime

That sucks, sorry you had to go through that, some men really don't think about how what they do makes the other person feel... I probably would have flashed them, personally
or blown kisses at them or something to that effect

I knwo the feeling! I go biking in the public parks around here. Wednesday I was unloading my bike from the back of the truck just as a truck of guys drove past honking the horn and making cat calls. Waht do you do but laugh and shake your head. We all know they are idiots (not all of them though)!

Haha, that's perfect! Oh, I love Lady Sybil. Almost more than Vimes, if that's possible.

ugh.

My friends and I used to get honked at and harassed when we were in jr. high and high school. That's so gross.

All I have to say to men that do this:

The woman you're harassing may be someone's girlfriend or wife. Do you want strange men leering at your girlfriend/wife?

She may be someone's mother. Would you like people to harass your mother?

She's someone's daughter. Would you want other men to demean her and treat her as a sex object? I hope not.

Women are people. Please treat us as such.

If you really have to share your thoughts with her, pay her a respectful compliment and be on your way.

I was thinking this same thing as I was standing there, but I'm fairly soft spoken and they would never have heard anything I said from where they were in the road.

I was also thinking I wonder how their mothers would react if they knew how they were treating a woman. Oh well, I'm over it now.

I know what you mean! Loving Lady Sybil I think let's me love Vimes more - I can see him as she sees him.

Yes! I think that's it exactly. Have you read Thud yet? It's by far my favorite Vimes book.

I know exactly how you guys feel. I hate to be treated like I'm nothing more than a piece of meat with no feelings or thoughts of my own. I really do think that most men think they are paying us a compliment, and don't understand how it makes us feel.

Once though, I was in wal-mart paying out and this man walks up beside me at the register. He got close enough that he was nearly face to face with me, so I turned to look at him intending to ask what his problem was, and before I could open my mouth he says "I just wanted to tell you that you are really beautiful" and then he turned around and walked away!!
The girl checking me out, the lady behinid me in line, and myself just stood there with our jaws hanging for a minute. It was unbelieveable, and I won't ever forget it. If I hadn't have been married, I would have chased him down for sure!!!
He expected no reply, just paid his compliment and walked away. If more men would realize the response they could get from that instead of cat-calling, it would be great.

I hang out with mostly all guys (I don't get along with girls as well) so I often listen to them oogling and talking about women in this way. I really don't think they see anything wrong with it. I think they all should take lessons from the stranger I met in wally world though!
