i want some sort of dental treat for my cats.

most of the ones in the stores have wheat and or corn, and my guys can't have either of those

i found these treats without those ingredients but they are pretty pricey.

i was wondering if i could make my own- it seems you need rice and/or oatmeal and/or barely and some flavoring (i want to use cheddar cheese) then something to hold it together

and i am guessing to make it crunchy it would need to be baked.

so i wonder could i make something with say, cream of rice cereal (uncooked) and maybe some long cooking oatmeal, perhaps an egg to hold it together and moisten it, and well the cheese is a problem as it might burn.
i could use grated parmesan that you get for spaghetti (the dried kind, not fresh from the deli)

and maybe some sort of oil....

i am not sure i want to just go ahead and try this if someone already has a workable recipe....

anyone?

i have two cats who love crunchy things, and the vet said that one of them should be using some sort of tartar control treat or food. i feed canned and do not want to bring dry cat food back into my house because i have one girl who begs for it constantly and drives me bananas, not to mention it makes her fat and unhealthy looking (dull coat with dandruff)

I don't have any recipe suggestions but if your cat likes to crunch things my vet has recommended peacock feathers. They are not just for playing with the feather, I guess the stem is great for chewing. She gave me 3 just to try it out. So one of my cats has fallen in love with chewing the stems, the others haven't quite caught on yet, I might try rubbing some oil on it. I think its a neat idea though.
