Ok, I have a 5 month old kitten who has been just perfect until recently. She does not jump or scratch furniture. She has been using her litter box since we adopted her at 8 weeks. 1 month ago she was big enough to roam the house and she loves to do that. So we moved her litter box down to our finished basement bathroom so she could have her own area. She does use the box. Yesterday I found out she had peed on the floor in the MBR. I thought maybe it was an accident and no big deal. I steam cleaned the carpet yesterday and all was fine. This morning as I was getting ready for work I saw her scratch the carpet and get ready to squat. I yelled no and she ran away. Why would she be doing this now? (She has in the past jumped up on the bed 2x's and left a nice "brown package" on my fiance's side of the bed. The 1st time was after he yelled no for the 1st time and the 2nd time was his own fault of locking her out of the bathroom.)I've never had a pet before so I could use any advice you might have. I want to make sure she is a happy kitten and has a good life. I should add that the vet is going to spay her later this month.

Thanks.

Well my first thought is maybe the box was moved a little too fast and far. Cats can be particular about this one. Sometimes it is best to move it slowly. You might want to consider putting in the MBR for just a little while and if she uses it regularly then you could move it a little at a time or wait until she is a little older. Make sure and use an odor elimenator as well, steam cleaning doesnt always get the full smell out. Also, check with the vet. It may be a sign she's got a little infection going on.

If the mess was located in the area where her litter box used to be, I agree...it was moved too fast. If you still decide to move the litter box, citrus (especially lemon) is supposed to prevent cats from urinating in the location of the lemon scented area. Always rule out medical problems, as well. Good luck.
