So I meet this guy 6 weeks ago, on myspace. For those of you who know what happened between my ex, Mark, and I last December, you know that we broke up because of an animal issue. Well "animal lover is a must" is one of the first things it says on my page. One would think, wouldn't one, that only people who love or at least tolerate animals would apply. So I get this guy and yes, he says he likes them, blah blah blah....So then the little inuendos start coming..."Do you have a lint roller" "Is there anything we can do about the hair?" Then pushing cats off his lap, never letting them lay there, never petting them, yelling at the dogs to go lay down....you know, the classic things that seem to be my lot in boyfriends lately....Anyway, the icing on the cake, he texted me at work Monday and told me Cubby peed on the living room floor. Now, my cats do not pee out of their box. Ever. So naturally I was shocked and dismayed, cuz I knew it had to be something wrong with her to make her do that. I asked him if he would take a paper towel and blot it and look to see if it was bloody. He refused. Would not do it. He said he didn't want to get cat pee all over him (all. over. him????? What??) and cleaning up after them wasn't his job. I didn't ask him to clean it, I asked him to look for blood. Anyway, he wouldn't do it. So when I got home, I searched all over in the area to find this pee he said was there. I felt, smelled and looked at the entire floor in that area. There was nothing. Cubby has something wrong with her legs, which causes her to squat weird sometimes. Not peeing, just squatting weird. Later that night, she did it again. She was looking at something on the wall and did it, and she wasn't peeing! Just sitting weird! Man was I furious!!! He had me worried all day, and looking all over for this urine, when she didn't even do it, and if he would have just done what I asked, it would have been figured out right away. Gah!
We have had some other issues and fights and I was contemplating leaving, but this takes the cake!!!
What am I supposed to do, make a list and give it to prospective dates to let them know what they're in for? Make applications for them to fill out? How the heck does anyone find "animal people" these days???

I think...not that you need another animal...but if you met someone at a dog park, or at the vet's office. You should find someone who ALSO has animals. Then you know. (I new my hubby was a keeper when he said he wanted to introduce me to his cat.

Sounds like he figured he could "make you over" -- silly boy. Better you find out now. But it is annoying.

I am not sure how i got steve, he liked animals, but didnt "love" them..well now he does. when i met him i let him know at the time. that i had 4 cats (shocking we only had 4 when we met lol) and that they were like children to me, and would not be going ANYWHERE. I also introduced him to all of them.

I knew he was a keeper when he was concerned because Loki didnt like him. (loki being the only male at the time took some time getting used to another male presence, now he loves daddy very much)

I also knew he was a keeper when he gave Jellie a nickname
puppy Kat, lol

I have dumped boyfriends before for not likeing my animals.

Like the one who said my horse should be glue because i spend to much time with her.
needless to say I broke up with him promptly the next day.

Well my bf wanted to meet my cats, so he met them.

He likes them, but he isnt into them.
He was never brought up with cats or dogs because his mother has allergies and i literally have to make all my clothes clean when i go over to his place, as she is heavily allergic to hair!
anyway yesterday he said "well your house is clean, but there is cat hair all over the chair and bed!" and I said.. "So??" You dont live there I do
and i sleep with my kitties and you don't and its going to be a very very long time before we move in together and by then YOU WILL GET USED TO CAT FUR

Just leave.

He's not worth the heartache or the risk.

First, he tricked you into dating him - if he lied about this just to get a chance with you what else has lied about? Frankly that's creepy. You can build trust when you're looking over your shoulder.

Second, it was in his interest to tell the truth. Presumably when dating both parties are 'interviewing' each other to discover suitability. Double creepy.

Third, any reasonable person who cared for you would be willing (although not thrilled) to put aside their feelings of grossness to make sure your cat wasn't in need urgent medical attention.

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
Ah Shannon
He probably said he liked animals because he liked you and didn't realise that you were deadly serious.
You are better off without him if he wouldn't even check with a paper towel that the 'pee' was ok.
It's trial and error with these men. Your prince will turn up eventually

I wouldn't worry about him. Maybe the application thing isn't a bad idea!
lee isn't by no means an animal lover. But he loves our girls. They have really grown on him. He will pick them up and tell me, Phantom/Phenom love me more!
(They know who scoops their litter and feeds them and cuddles them) Or he will tell me this is my cat! The right guy will love you and your cats!

I don't know any guys who DON'T worry about pet hair! Or gals for that matter either. I personally can not STAND pet hair. I am VERY careful about pet hair because I think it's sort of disgusting to have hair stuck to you and rolling about the floor like a tumbleweed. I think lint rollers are very important to pet owners

My boyfriend liked animals when we first met but he wasn't crazy about them. Now he loves Milo. He's always saying how Milo is his cat (even though I was the one who suggested getting a cat in the first place). He doesn't like Zebra very much because she meows a LOT, keeps him awake and is always saying that shes too small and he's afraid hes going to step on her (which would never happen because she is fast when she sees someone coming.) Yesterday he told me that I better get used to dogs because we are going to have one when we buy a house.

Aaawww...Shannon!
Want me to kick his butt? I can!

Darn them Myspace men..
Anyways-I'll be your boyfriend! I love cats too, cept Pedro scares me a tad bit.
But as for finding a real man that loves pets..Why not go pick up some men at the humane shelter?

I dunno...I'd say just firmly explain to any man you meet,

"Hey, I love animals, yes, they puke and pee, and yes, it might get on you..If you dont like it..Then sorry sugar, My bebe's come first."

You know, it's not a bad idea to take a potential date to walk the dogs and visit with the cats at your local animal shelter and then go get lunch. That way you can see how they interact with animals before you develop a relationship with them and those animals get some love and attention for an afternoon

Today was a bunch of nonsense, he was badgering me to give him the things he left at my house, like I was holding them hostage, and then he IM'd me saying now I can live alone in my hairy filth....seriously, I invite anyone over to see my house. Come ON! Anyone can see (well, animal people can see, anyway) that it's not filthy!!! As a pet sitter, let me tell you, I have been in some filthy houses with less pets than I have!
So I go on myspace today and he left a message that said "thanks for the a$$....Fat chicks are like mopeds. Fun to ride, till your friends see you!"
Now, was that necessary? It stung...but mainly I just laughed it off. What a loser.
