i am a little confused about what would cause a cat to pee outside of its litter box should it have a uti....is it because they pee more frequently and will just go where they are or how does that work?

Usually when a cat gets a UTI it pees outside the box because it is in a lot of pain when going to the bathroom so it associates pain with the litterbox and avoids it. She needs to see a vet to get treatment for the UTI since it is painful when she urinates.

i can see what ur saying about the association with pain but would the cat not associate any and everywhere it goes then with pain?my cat doesnt have one i was jsut curious.so does that mean then that the cat has held it in so long by the avoidance of using the litter box that it will just litterally come out of them(pee)?

No. Often, they go more frequently, but have smaller amounts of urine. If you've ever had a urinary tract infection or bladder infection, you know how painful it is for you and you don't want to go either. Imagine that for an animal that doesn't have the brain capacity we have! It's a scary thing for them and they are in incredible pain.
