Im sure we've heard the whole "cats steal your breath" myth.

What other myths or superstitions have you heard about cats?

That you can tell how big they'll grow up to be by the size of their paws as kittens.

In england it's supposed to be good luck if a black cat crosses your path, but isn't it bad luck in the US?

In England black cats are good luck and white cats are bad luck and in the U.S. we have the reverse myth. It's all ridiculous baloney to me.

My Gran used to tell us loads of cat tales
the only one I remember is about a cat licking its fur the wrong way, its supposed to mean a snowy storm was coming
If it sneezed then it was gonna rain, are they true ?? whos knows, I dont think a cat would like to like its fur the wrong way

Cats never get hurt when they fall from high places......... That one bothers me a lot because it is so dangerous to the cat if people believe it.

somone once told me that calicos represented the devil

Also I read in a dog training book once.. that because a cats tail stands upright and slitheres side to side, that it represents the devil.

Now.. someone really has to dislike cats to practically say that they are demon children of Satan.

If a cat jumps in a crib with an infant, it will suck it's breath out and kill it! What kinda old wives tail is that!

Oh cool I did a project in my surface design class about cat myths. It was a wall hanging and I thought it came out kinda cool, but I had to research a bunch of cat myths. I will see if I can post up a picture of it since we are on the topic.

Here it is:

Cats....the spawn of the devil!? tch.

But you know what, I think the whole black cat thing is the most hurtful
becuz soo many people freak. Thus resulting with the ebony beauties gettin the sour end only because of their fur color...

Oh, I love black cats and I believe they are good luck.

I'm particularly upset that most people believe Siamese cats are nasty.

That sounds kind of familiar to me, too.. my whole house (catwise; except Stinky) must represent the devil, then..

Cats make young girls infertile! That is such a load of baloney! I think it comes from Toxoplasmosis (which doesn't make people infertile and chances are higher you get from uncooked meat rather than cats).

My ex MIL used to say that cats attract lightning.

She was nutty though. Had all kinds of reasons for not liking cats, not one of them rational.

I think the superstition about cats and babies is based on a sliver of truth, being that a baby's breath might smell of milk and a cat might crawl into the crib to look for the source of the scent. (or just a cozy warm place for a nap)

I love black cats, they seem more intelligent and vocal. Hecate used to try to form words when she meowed. well, it seemed that way, anyway...
