My mom's friend bought a hamster for her kids, and they, like most kids, ended up not spending much time with it after she bought it. She knows I have a hammie, and that I love them, so she said she'd give it to me if I wanted. I thought she was joking, so I told her to talk to mom about it, and if she really wanted me to have it, then I'd take it. I rode to work with mom this morning, and she brought her for me. She's a Syrian, and she's still a little shy. She's sleeping right now, but I did get a picture earlier. I'll post more a little later.. I'm looking into a bigger cage right now, because she looks a little cramped. They named her "Buttercup", and she's adorable!

Aw, she is sooo cute! I've had a few hammies in the past, they are adorable. Not sure if they make the best pets for children though, as they are usually asleep in the day when the children want to play with them!

What a cutie pie!

I am not familiar with hamster breeds. What is unique in a Syrian hamster?

I got her a "pink princess" cage from PetSmart, and she's been settling in. Pictures soon.
It's obvious that no one ever took her out of the cage, because when I do, she gets a little nervous. I'll have to work on that.

I don't know too much about them, but they're bigger than some other breeds. She's larger than my Campbell dwarf, and Syrians are known as golden hamsters/fancy hamsters/teddy bear hamsters. I think they're the first breed to ever be bred and sold for pets. She's a sweetie.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Buttercup, you're so adorable!
I had a little hamster named Petals for a couple of days about 10 years ago. Sierra let me know it probably wasn't a very good idea, so she found a safer home

Oh the hamster stories I have. I had one when we had an orange Tabby name tigger. Somehow the hamster got out and into my firends overnight bag and went home with her. Soo there after they called asking if we were missing a hamster!!

Buttercup is gorgeous!

Sounds like something Buttercup might end up doing..

Glad you all like Buttercup! Here are a few more pictures.

Here's her whole cage.. you can't really tell, but she was crawling down the tube in this one..

Here's a (somewhat old) picture of Carmie too, just so he's not left out..
