I'm sure you've all done this at some point, BUT has anyone ever typed in a web site thinking they knew the site name, but accidentally went to a porn site instead?

I did that just now. Typed in the address of a Sporting Goods store that I thought was just the first word of the business name (www.firstword.com) and well let's just say it was a different type of "sporting goods".

On a similar vein, my parents did a Google search for a vacation they were planning in Mexico, and my father was looking for a place that had SCUBA-diving, parasailing and other water-related adventures. He typed in "water sports." Huge mistake!

My chief problem is that my computer at work has the address bar set up to automatically fill in the rest of the address when I'm typing it in, while my computer at home does not. I use my computer at work waaaay more than I use the one at home, so I just get in the habit of typing in the first few letters of a website I want to visit and click "Enter," and it takes me to the correct one because I've been there a bazillion times. At home, however, this is NOT the case. Typing in "www.hot ..." and then hitting the "Enter" key leads to a website that is most assuredly NOT Hotmail!

Yes and it got me in tons of trouble in high school!! I was really good in school, never got detentions and suddenly I was facing suspension. I had been working on the school site and had put up links to some fellow student web pages. One of the pages I mistyped and transposed 2 letters. Well it was my principal that found out! Eek... I was never called down to the office that many times in my life, let alone in such a short period of time....

They finally realized it was a mistake. Poor Brian..the guy I was linking too. They actually thought it was his homepage and informed his mother.

Movin' on up!
You have to be careful, when trying to access the White House's Web site, too - it's "whitehouse.gov". If you type "whitehouse.com", you get a porn site.

Some companies really need to think through their url before putting it online, eg a company called Pen Island makes ww.penisland.co.uk/.com, not sure which one it is, don't want to type it in case it is the wrong one! but Pen Island is a real company!

Yet another time in school about 9 years ago. We had just gotten dial-up internet in the high school and our keyboarding class was going over the basics of the internet. They had an instruction sheet we were supposed to go through. One of the instructions was to find the White House web site.. It didn't take long for them to tell people to skip this instruction.

That's hilarious!

I remember a few years ago a exclusive fraternity in the area had accidentally let their web domain expire without realising it. Within a day of it expiring, another group took the name and posted a porn site. How awful is that!!!!

I was doing a search for gemstones at work one time, and on one particular site, I really got to see someone's gems!

When we first got the internet back home, me and my brothers were young, and they wanted to look at cars - so, my brother typed in something about hotrods - that was DEFINATELY not cars!
My little brothers ran away screaming, thinking they were going to get into BIG trouble... and my mom came in and just about died laughing, apparently it had happened to her the same day while she was looking something up too.... we soon after realized how to block all those sites!
