My friend in Australia (some of you may remember, she lost Milo about a year ago), has an 18 year old male cat suffering from multiple cancerous tumors. He also has a heart murmur. The vet is leaning towards putting Darling out of his misery, but Michelle just isn't quite ready for that yet. He is still eating and getting around, so she just wants to manage his pain for as long as possible without compromising the quality of his life. The tumors are on his neck, probably spreading to his throat. I know it is only a matter of time before he does stop eating and begins a steadily declining journey. However, I understand that Michelle just can't bear to see him go yet.

She's asked me to come here for help. Does anyone know of pain treatments or medications for situations like these? I've done countless hours of internet searches and cannot find anything definite. I should have come here first. When in doubt, come to the people who know and love cats the best.

I'd appreciate your advice, everyone. Michelle also thanks you in advance.

I am sorry that I don't have any advise to offer you.. I simply don't know. BUT... I wanted to let you and Michelle know that I am praying for Darling and that we blew him kisses in the hopes that he will be comfortable and happy

You could try PMing Bella713, she is dealing with a similar situation and may have some useful advice.

I'm so sorry to hear that she is going through this difficult time. It's so hard when that time approaches. Her vet can't offer any advice on pain meds?, that would be my first thought.

Sending many prayers and blessings

Thank you. I'll do that.

And thank you, Miss Mew. Her vet has given her something, but it isn't strong enough. I think with his age, the vet really is just wanting her to put him down at this point. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
