It was such a lovely day today, and perfect barbeque weather, that I twisted by sweetie's arm (not much) and convinced him that we should have veal chops instead of the Veal Tarragon. He accepted my promise that that will happen soon, and meanwhile acknowledged that we're into that part of the year where you might get a bunch more BBQing in, or none. With our chops...garlic mash, and fresh scarlet runner beans from the garden...

And for dessert, a simple fruit salad...

LOL, that's my thoughts exactly. Kind of reminded me of pre-chewed food, LOL

I do love chili and I substitute chicken or turkey for the beef quite regularly, but mine is still tomato based.

No pic for me today, tis rib fest, so I will be sampling the delights down by the lake (if it stops raining anyway otherwise I actually have to think and make something)

Fwan, someone posted a delicious garlic mash recipe in the fundraiser thread

Fran, can I come over for dinner?

He might not mind the garlic in this case, because its roasted, though you definitely shouldn't let him know how much goes into it, if he's likely to get worked up!

Allow one good sized potato per serving. Prepare as usual for mashed potatoes, but when mashing, add roasted garlic cloves (one whole bulb for every two servings -- no kidding), lots of butter (let the consistency be your guide, but I like about 1/4 cup for each two servings), a little salt and lots of freshly ground black pepper.

To roast the garlic, rub the outside skins off, trim the tips of the cloves to expose the flesh (some people just slice 1/4 inch off the top of the bulb, but for me that takes too much off some cloves and leaves others untouched), sprinkle with a little salt, lots of freshly ground black pepper, and a pinch of thyme, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, and bake at 350 F for about an hour. The little pan I like to use takes three bulbs comfortably, and then I have some left to garnish a salad or a pasta.

Whipped cream on mine. Ice cream under Junior's. Rob had his just as is. We had some with our brunch today, too. Still good, even though the bananas are a little tired-looking the next day.

Yeah, nice chops -- not for every day or even every week! yikes the price! but it's a long weekend, what can I say?
Sometimes you splurge!

C'mon over! I think it's nachos on the lawn tonight and some chicken wings maybe.

But, I dunno -- I think maybe ribs win!
(which reminds me, we need to make sure we get another feed of ribs before BBQ season is over.
